SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- A woman has been arrested on drunken driving charges in upstate New York after her 12-year-old daughter called 911 while in the vehicle.

State police say 49-year-old Jamie Hicks of Long Island was driving with her two children near Brewster when she was stopped Sunday night after her daughter called 911 to say her mother was driving drunk.

That’s gonna be mighty awkward during visitation at the grey-bar.

Don’t we all love it when the little Hitler youth inform on their own parents?

I love it when a kid has the guts and the brains to stop a self-pitying, self-centered, loathsome, despicable, self-indulgent parent from getting them all killed.

I don't like this at all.

Yes, mom shouldn't have been driving while drinking, but my guess is .18 you probably aren't weaving all over the road.

My guess is this is a snotty kid mad at mom. You know the kind - the 12 year old girl entering adolescence and thinks she is head of the household.

If mom is weaving and in and out of lanes that's one thing. But wait until precious finds mom is going to jail, going to lose her license and can't chauffeur her to ballet any more, and has to spend their vacation money hiring an attorney.

I hate to sound like this but I found out a long time ago the law is not the friend of the family.

Did you bother to read the article? The mother was TWICE the legal limit.

.18 is double the legal limit and unless she was a professional alcoholic like Ted Kennedy was back in his heyday, she probably was weaving around a bit.

Someone driving around with that much alcohol in their system probably has a real problem with alcohol.

I agree with you. It’s George Orwell world where children are now guardians of their parents. Time to smash their cell phones to bits.

If mom had a .18 and wasn't showing any problems driving, mom had had lots of practice--drinking that is. The effects vary considerably depending on individual tolerance for alcohol, but that tolerance must be built up over time and implies years of hard drinking.

Yep. Mom's gonna need the dough for a lawyer. Still, if mom was screwing up and driving badly, better to live to do odd jobs around the neighborhood for cash than have an allowance waiting you aren't going to collect.

I don't like the 'narc off mama' bit either, but somewhere in there, desire for survival kicks in...it's just a question of how dangerous things really were. Tough call for a kid. Pretty selfish of mom to put the kid in that bind, too.

Sometimes its the kids with the only brains in the household.

We now live in a society, where babymammas and sugar daddies have no responsibility whatsoever, I don’t care if they are white or black.

Every once in awhile, a kid is born to that set of circumstances, and has to rise up be the parent.

This is particularly true with drug and alcohol abuse.

I pity the mother for what has happened, but I more pity the kid for having to do what she had to do to possibly save her mothers life, her own life, life of her siblings, or maybe even the life of my wife or kids driving in the oncoming lane.

For some families Booze and Drugs are a helluva burden and a curse. I speak from my own experience.

From the article, one will never know if the kid did it out of Love or out of Spite. But either way, I know that it is one less drunk on the road, and that is not a bad thing in my book.

Mea Culpa. It’s late and somehow I was thinking of .08 which is just barely legal limit.

You are right.

I am sure this wasn’t the first time the girl witnessed her mother wasted...hopefully this wakes up the Mom to get some help.
