Taipei, July 23 (CNA) Maintaining relations with far-away sweethearts has been easier since the inauguration of the high speed rail in 2007, a survey released on Friday said.
Of those polled, 17.3 percent said the rail system's convenience had saved romantic relationships for themselves, their friends or relatives.
The Japanese-built train runs 345 kilometers from Taipei in northern Taiwan to southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung in 90 minutes, compared to four and a half hours for conventional trains.
The survey of 1,601 people in 22 cities and counties in Taiwan found that 82.9 percent of respondents said the rail system has increased the speed of travel in Taiwan, while 67.2 percent said they are willing to travel further because of the train.
Some 60.8 percent said they are more willing to visit friends and 22.5 percent said they are willing to work outside their hometowns, said the poll, which was commissioned by the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC).
Respondents said reading books or newspapers was the most common activity while traveling, followed by taking naps, appreciating the scenery, chatting with friends and listening to music.

LOL!!!! To be fair they kinda cram people in!!!
Yes, but it also makes it easier for men to visit their mistresses in the South of Taiwan.
Willie you cannot get anything correct!
Ok you convinced me. We are one railroad track away from Nirvana.
Taiwan has a population density of over 630 persons per square kilometer. Transit and rail can work in high-density areas such as NYC. They don’t work in low-density regions. Transit 101. But a fact that escapes social-engineering types such as yourself.
Railing at high speed, um, nevermind.
willie Green should move to Taiwan and hunt for a lover and leave the US alone!
In this country the rubber meets the road with speed comfort, privacy, and convience!
ha ha new talking point, “mass transit leads to sex.”
“mass transit leads to sex.”
From what i’ve seen on rapid transit you had better carry a hugh supply of bags and be drunk to want to have sex with the users!
