Apple leaves iPad vulnerable after monster iPhone patch job
ComputerWorld ^ | June 22, 2010 | Gregg Keizer

As part of Monday's iOS 4 upgrade, Apple patched a record 65 vulnerabilities in the iPhone, more than half of them critical...

However, the first-generation iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as the much newer iPad, may be vulnerable to some or all of the 65 bugs...

Formerly known as iPhone OS 4, iOS 4 included patches for 35 bugs, or 54% of the total, that were tagged with the phrase "arbitrary code execution," which is Apple's way of saying the vulnerability is critical and could be used to hijack an iPhone or an iPod Touch.

Excuse me? Hateful monster?

Did you READ the article? Here's some DIRECT QUOTES:

The 15 non-WebKit patches included a pair that addressed glitches in the password-locking feature of the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

Apple has had problems with the iPhone's password-locking feature in the past. In August 2008, a researcher discovered that Apple had forgotten to patch a bug that let people sidestep locking by simply tapping "Emergency Call" on the password-entry screen and then double-tapping the Home button. The bug had been patched in January 2008, but it resurfaced in iPhone 2.0. Apple repatched it a month later.

In February 2010, the last time before Monday that Apple updated the iPhone's firmware, the company fixed another passcode flaw, which could be used to bypass the security feature when a user was restoring an unresponsive smartphone.

Now, I'd call ALL OF THOSE security problems. And if it's hateful for pointing out critical security flaws with iPads and iPhones and other devices running earlier iOS versions, then I guess I'm guilty as charged.

Ask Apple why the security flaws are present... They're the ones who put them there, not me!

Yes, yes I did...:) I blame it on breathing grease fumes for most of the day, putting a new clutch in the truck!

I wonder how the Apple Crew will respond. Wonder if I’ll be labeled a “GD EVIL LIAR” for posting this bit of news...

Wonder if I should ping a few of our friends from Team Apple. Could be fun!

I’m sure you’ll be attacked, just as I will. Any bets for how long it takes for a FUD?

I’m just amazed at the willful denial of reality with the Apple Cultists. Apparently acknowledging “GASP!” faults with their systems is simply not an option.

The truth is, ANY piece of software with ANY input source can be compromised. Even if it’s from Cupertino...

Frankly, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet! It’ll either be a dozen of the Macolytes coming in to claim FUD and LIES, or they will completely ignore it, because it breaks down their Jobs Reality Distortion Field.

Well hey if you paid 3 times the price you would want some justification as well.

Well hey if you paid 3 times the price you would want some justification as well.

But it's OK, because in another 2-3 years Apple will drop support for the current products and you'll have to either upgrade or live with the holes in security (you know, like those who still have 1st generation iPod Touches, released less than 3 years ago).

So it's only 3 times the price, but you it has 1/3rd the lifespan so it's all good...

Sounds series.

And hugh! Manbearpig is on the loose, someone call A(pple)lgore.
