What is going on with FR?

Posted on 06/22/2010 5:26:33 AM PDT by Vision

A server crashed, ok. But why have I not been able to get on FR at home since Saturday night, but FR is accessible at work?

Alright, you’re going to be asked if you’re logged in of course, but in all seriousness, FR tweaked their IP address over the weekend.

Try using a command line instruction on your home computer called DNS flush.

In Windows:
Start -> Run -> (type) CMD -> (then type)IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS (hit enter)

You may have to run the CMD instruction as an Administrator, but I don’t think so.

Server “issues” I believe (and maybe outside interference, if you have a bit of a taste for conspiracies).

There are several alternate sites, including this one: http://altfreerepublic.freeforums.org/portal.php

where you should be able to get info during a crash

The FR being down a couple of days made me realize just how much I appreciate it and depend upon it. I will keep that in mind during the next pledge drive.

I had the same problem and the ipconfig /flushdns didn’t work so I just added the new IP to my hosts file and now I’m good to go.

Put that in your browser at home. Jim/John’s new one after another server fried.

Clean your temp files, cookies, offline files & SSL state.

Reboot.

As necessary, run the command prompt as described above.

From what I could tell, it appeared they brought the site back up with some older (or different) software with a different look. All the post times were mixed up, probably
because older posts, posted again. Then as new posts were
made things got back to looking and working like normal.

The Robinsons are giving us a taste of of what FR would be like if it was run by a govt agency.

I usually can’t get on using the latest IE version. I booted up an old machine with a dialup system and an older IE version and everything works fine but slow, of course.

Just for fun, I tried the DNS flush, and I couldn’t believe how much faster FR pages load.

I had the same problem. My friend, who has cable modem was zipping right along, but over at my house where I’ve got a 56K dialup, things were all bogged down. What’s up with that????
