Magnolia Springs, Alabama is a small town along a pristine river. Mail is delivered to many residents by boat. City officials are determined to prevent the BP oil spill from coming anywhere close, even if it means acting alone.

This will be the only way things will really get done and the situation relieved. It’s up to the people themselves. They’re the ones living there.
Yep cause Dear Leader clearly wants this oil spill to have a devastating impact on the Gulf beaches, rivers and wetlands.
Never let a good crisis go to waste...........
That’s the American spirit! Can’t rely on the Feds.
I think this place should get the local law enforcement behind them and take action and if the Feds show up, arrest the scumbags.
I think Gov. Jindall of Louisiana should call the state National Guard and have them out there protecting the workers building the burms and do it without the federal government’s approval. If the feds show up, have the National Guard and Local Law enforcement arrest them if they try to interfere.
This article makes a good point. Where are the helping hands from other countries? Surely, there are muslim countries, Buddist countries, Hindu countries, etc. with ships and expertise that could help collect this oil.
They should at least know whose ass to kick.
I actually heard some a$$hole insisting it would be too damaging to walk into the marsh to remove the oil.
Insanity rules.
Kudos out to The Hangout Music Fest. in Gulf Shores, that was planned long before the oil spill yet donated proceeds.
FYI to those of you familiar with our area. Just got a tweet from WKRG: “Large amounts of oil now washing ashore in Perdido Pass and Perdido Bay by Orange Beach.” Unless I’m mistaken, you go over Perdido Pass when going to the FloraBama.
You are absolutely correct on Perdido Pass. As a native of the area, I am proud to see our local folks exercising their good judgment and taking matters into their own hands. The area truly is pristine and no one who’s ever enjoyed the “cold hole” wants it damaged due to inaction.
Thanks lone haranguer :) ‘Back in the day’ that was my ‘playground’, lol. Hard to recognize the area now and too much traffic so I rarely leave Gulf Shores!
This article caught my eye, because I lived in Magnolia Springs for a short while about 15 years ago. Really loved it there!
ping for lsater read..
It is completely worth the effort to plow through the traffic and spend a day on the river up there if you want to relax and reconnect (with nature or a loved one). I can’t believe it’s still relatively unspoiled, but it’s a special place. I hope you and yours are able to avoid the oil as much as possible and find some time to check out your old stomping grounds.
Where are the helping hands from other countries? >>>>
Jake Tapper said that several countries offered help but they were turned down. He said BP turned the help away but Obama is the one in charge, not BP.
Good idea lone :) btw, spoke with Hubby and he heard that Perdido Pass has been protected by some barrier. Sounds undoable to me and he didn’t have time to explain. Local channels stopped working on my DirecTV box, so I’ll have to see what I can find online.
Why is it called the ‘cold hole’?
