WASHINGTON President Barack Obama defensively and sometimes testily insisted on Thursday that his administration, not oil giant BP, was calling the shots in responding to the worst oil spill in the nation's history.
"I take responsibility. It is my job to make sure that everything is done to shut this down," Obama declared at a news conference in the East Room of the White House. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill dominated the hour-long session.
He called the spill, now in its sixth week, an "unprecedented disaster" and blasted a "scandalously close relationship" he said has persisted between Big Oil and government regulators.
Obama announced new steps to deal with the aftermath of the spill,

Well it’s only been what 6 weeks? A little late are we.
I suppose he is also going to say he is responsible for having no fire booms?
zerO says he an his administration were calling the shots all along on the day the ‘top kill” works —
UN-F*&KIN-REAL!!
Not that this isn’t BP’s responsibility but I’ll play along. During Katrina, W was blasted by the msm about the 3 day “delay” in getting out the NG. Where’s the outrage over Hussein’s 6 weeks in this?
he claims he has been calling the shots all along
Nonsense. Obama is BP’s bitch. They bought and paid for him. And once Obama is bought, he stays bought. It’s the Chicago Way.
So why wait 5-6 weeks then have a ‘press conference’ to change the history of the oil spill and claim you been on it from the beginning?
If he’s been on it since the beginning, what a colossal failure.
Damage control.
Wanna bet BP execs were laughing themselves SILLY at Hussein during this “press conference?”
Perhaps if he is taking responsibility for the oil spill and clean up, he should step down from his current position to concentrate on this. I’m so glad to hear he’s been on this from the beginning..not letting fundraisers or other frivolous events get in the way of his responsibility.
I take it there was no mention of the lives that were lost on the platform....I didn’t think so.
...before your goons got to him today.
-Spoken minutes after the leak has stopped.
If he had said this weeks ago, it would have been worth something.
Fixing the oil disaster is your responsibility???....Where the hell you been???
This is not playing well to O’s base. The progressives up here
in Oregon want him to seize all the assets of BP, Trans Ocean and
the ever evil Halliburton to compensate “the people” for this disaster.
I doubt anything less than this and the jailing of these company’s
senior executives will satisfy the left up here.
Isnt he in charge of the regulators? Does that mean he is blasting his own relationships with the oil industry?
since when has this POS taken responsibility for anything since entering the world as a non-american.
Then he should be fired because he sucks at his job.
He takes responsibility the same way Blumenthal takes full responsibility for exaggerating his military service. There’s no responsibility if there’s no anticipation or expectation of consequence.
