SAN FRANCISCO — Wall Street has called the end of an era and the beginning of the next one: The most important technology product no longer sits on your desk but rather fits in your hand. Enlarge This Image Jim Wilson/The New York Times

The moment came Wednesday when Apple, the maker of iPods, iPhones and iPads, shot past Microsoft, the computer software giant, to become the world’s most valuable technology company.

This changing of the guard caps one of the most stunning turnarounds in business history for Apple, which had been given up for dead only a decade earlier, and its co-founder and visionary chief executive, Steven P. Jobs. The rapidly rising value attached to Apple by investors also heralds an important cultural shift: Consumer tastes have overtaken the needs of business as the leading force shaping technology.

M$ has always been about $$$$ rather than tech.

I respectfully disagree. I have run nothing but MS OS’s since 1991 and never had any issues.

This thread reminds me - since I have both a iMac and a Windows box.

I MUST remember to boot my Windows box to make sure it still works. It seems as though other than a Windows upgrade, I forgot about it once I got an iMac a few years ago.

Thanks for the reminder.

The NY Times?

Obviously Apple is better than Microsoft because Apple is more liberal than Microsoft is.

For the sci-fi fans on here, I was thinking yesterday that the iPad would be perfect if used as the ‘desk’ for the Ender’s Game movie.

I am not sure the claim that Apple is liberal and Microsoft is conservative holds much water.

After all, Microsoft is the MS in MSNBC.

Issues are not the issue - I have all sorts of legacy hardware that only has M$ drivers and run up to XP with great success.

That doesn't mean that BeOS didn't run better on hardware that it supported.

But both Apple and Microsoft believe in closed systems. Apple is becoming more like MSFT every day.

I agree with you concerning the excellence and superiority of Microsoft products. Apple products really are nothing more that gadgets for poser-onophile types who are really closet/coast libs who were probably picked on in grade school. Jobs is a big phony who wishes he could get some of the originality that Gates brought to the PC world. Apple is is simply an excuse for elitism. Microsoft products are for those who want to work and make America great again. HA! that should get the ball rolling...

Neither is conservative. I would say Apple is a little further left because Al Gore sits on the board, but Bill Gates gives a lot of money to lefty causes.

I love my Macs,however.

Yeh! lol

But you know how the NY Slimes is. You can be incredibly liberal but in most cases that still isn’t liberal enough. That’s microsoft.

Not for me. (And I say this as someone who had a plam sized TV 25 years ago.)

It doesn’t. Not at all.

It’s a good thing I didn’t make that claim, right? :-)

Bill Gates donates time and money to mostly liberal causes, so the “Microsoft is more conservative than Apple” argument has no weight. His biggest project is eradicating AIDS in Africa.

Exactly.

A Beck inspired 'blackboard' on left wing funding from foundations to public media and more
