R.I.P. Frank Frazetta

Frank Frazetta, the great painter of fantasy book covers, has died. The artist, most closely associated with Robert E. Howard's "Conan the Barbarian" character, was the subject of the 2003 documentary "Frazetta: Painting With Fire." After a series of strokes, Frazetta trained himself to paint using his left hand. His signature work often featured bare-chested "sword and sorcery" heroes, helpless women and fantasy creatures. His paintings often sell in the million-dollar range. Frazetta was 82

I am posting this as I know there are a number of Sci/Fi fans here on FR. If you have ever read a Conan novel you most likely seen his work.

Sci/Fi has lost a great artist today.

I'm totally shocked. I have a very VERY clear memory of him dying over 20 years ago.

I have no idea who I'm remembering, because obviously I was wrong.

There was a documentary available through Netflix (at least it was, I have seen a number of titles disappear when they go out of print and customers swipe them) made in recent years on Frank Frazetta that included him giving a tour through his museum at his home deep in the woods.

Crank up the Molly Hatchet and grab a Conan book.

Of course the funniest part is that his image of Conan became the dominant image, but it bears little resemblance to how Conan is described in the text.
