Yet a prosecutor told jurors that Anthony Hopkins terrorized his wife and young children, isolated them and used the Bible to manipulate them.

“I always question statements like this.

Sorry, but there is always responsibility for those being manipulated unless they are as dumb as dirt.”

———>
<MY Apologies if I got your statement wrong. Maybe you got YOUR nose in the dirt.
Don’t you realize there are millions of DEAD people around the world because of SCUMBAGS that HIDE behind the skirts of the church????
It seems Like every SINNER goes to church and it does not help the church when THOSE sinners act against THE Church for their personal gain.

Every Minute there is a person who will violate his/HER family or friends just to get ahead no matter what. I guess that is the kind of person this Anthony Hopkins is.
Unless you can prove otherwise. We’d like to know here on FR.
Sorry Nothing Personal.
I am not for or against the church.

Sure, nothing personal at all, Ha!

Let me explain...

It goes to personal responsibility and the press with a sensational story.

It's not that this guy is not a monster, he is, and should be put to death as far as I am concerned.

My point is a finer one.

Too often in our permissive society, it is way to easy to take away our own responsibility for doing the right thing.

And the press likes to do that in spades.

I don't know the details of the wife, and she sure didn't deserve to die, but the writer of this article seems to think that he/she can pass of the ability to manipulate using the Bible as all powerful and that this was the cause (highly exaggerated) of his power over his family.

As I posted before, unless they were very ignorant, and quite frankly, of a very low IQ or suffering from some other type of emotional problem(s), this could not be the case. The bible was written in a simple manner for all men to read and understand, so I, or anyone else, cannot be manipulated if I have a modicum of intelligence, unless I give up some of my own personal responsibility to read the bible and understand it.

I hope that helps you understand my position.

It was more of a general post against bad-journalism, then any comment on the facts of the deplorable situation.

Since you seemed to want to make this an issue with everyone, I will oblige in kind.

My apologies to you,
I did not want this to be an issue with “ALL”.
Maybe his wife was a scumbag, who knows.
But This Reverend was wrong in how he killed her and makes the church look bad, although people make the church look bad on it’s own.
I guess We will have to see how it goes in court. I guess there’s going to be plenty of time for that.
I apologize for copying “All”. I guess i shouldn’t have, I didn’t know you were going to be offended.
But I don’t agree with you calling people that “fell” in this Reverend Hopkins situation of “Low IQ”.
Calling People “low IQ” without knowing the situation is now quite right.
Thanks for writing back
Sincerey

I'm not calling them low IQ, my whole point was that in normal situations, the Bible can't be used that way unless there are extenuating circumstances, Ignorance, Low IQ, or emotional issues.

The Bible was written in such a manner, that if an individual actually reads it thoroughly and completely(which is their responsibility) it is nearly impossible to manipulated in such a fashion to allow others to control your life.

That eyebrows-raised look of either nonchalance or bemusement appears on your typical druggie/socio/psycopath’s mugshot.

Sorry, but there is always responsibility for those being manipulated unless they are as dumb as dirt.

Of course, the socio/psychopath has a talent for finding precisely that kind. Not necessarily "dumb as dirt," but with deficits of self-esteem, and surpluses of emotional neediness and a generous helping of gullibility.

Well, all right then: Dumb as dirt.

According to the article, the wife had at least a stepmother.

Six of the children who lived with the couple have been sent to live with in Georgia with Arletha Hopkins' stepmother Mary Best, who commended the jury.

''They saw the same thing I did because it didn't take them long to convict him,'' she said after the verdict.

Given the comment of the stepmother, I'd suspect the wife might have had some sort of falling out w/ her folks over her 'loving husband.' But still--the woman is missing for four years and nobody apparently noticed. Sad, really sad.

No, actually I was, once again pointing out the absurdity of blaming celebacy for the evil deeds of anyone. If marriage stopped evil then no married person would ever commit a crime, especially a sex crime.

Yeah, whatever. You’re talking about celibate priests — which are found in your particular denomination. This story wasn’t about the Roman Catholic Church, and yet you had to use this story to defend your denomination. Again, so often Roman Catholics are more concerned about promoting and defending their denomination, rather than promoting Christ.

Catholics are not a “denimination” of Christianity....they, and they alone ARE Christianity. Christ founded only one church and for 1500 years she did just fine until the protestant revolt resulted in 20,000 or so denominations....all of which may be good, but are sadly incomplete

Thank you for making your convictions clear for all to see: that it’s insufficient to follow Jesus as His Apostles did, and that it’s necessary to belong to your particular church.

Of course, such a conviction is false. We are saved and adopted into the family of God through repentance and faith in Jesus. All those who have been thus adopted are member of His Church. As an Evangelical, I am not “sadly incomplete” — I am indeed “complete” in Christ.

I owe you an apology! I review my posts periodically and somehow overlooked this one. I just wanted to thank you for the link and you are right, he was nothing more than a drifter. Of course the MSM is so quick to write an article that ‘implies’ he was evangelical. Is it intentional or just ignorance? I lean toward intentional.

anyway thanks for providing further information.

I so have to agree with you . I believe this is intentional attempt at smearing evangelical Christians. The media it seems is going way out of it’s way these day to do so.
