U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire will vote against the health care bill when the House votes in the next few days, despite weeks of personal entreaties from President Obama and Democratic House leaders, he said today.
Altmire, D-McCandless, was considered an important swing vote for House leaders who are trying to attract 216 supporters for the signature domestic initiative of Obama's presidency.
Altmire voted against a previous health care bill last year ,and as the climactic vote on this Senate bill approaches, he has been buffeted by protests for and against the plan, intense lobbying in Congress and two visits to the White House.

I will honor my promise.
Don’t trust any of them. As Yogi Berra said, the game’s not over until it’s over.
I agree. There’s too much time left for those varmints to do their dirty deeds.
Don’t be silly.
The only democrats that are changing votes to no now are ones that are vulnerable or possibly vulnerable come November.
The dems have the votes they need and have for a while...These last minute deals and talks are to decide who they can release.
When I go to Yahoo news, I feel like I’ve entered a parallel dimension.
Their last headline:
End in sight, health care battle tilts Obama’s way (AP)
And the last three have been similar. Every single one implies things are changing for the better for Obama on this thing, even as democrats fall by the wayside to the no vote.
Is Yahoo (and AP) really that overtly biased. They are destroying their credibility.
Well, Romney said the Massachusetts plan is working well. Meanwhile, it is failing miserably. And he wants the same kind of plan on a national level. Karp!
I don’t care how good looking he is (and frankly I don’t think he is) — he’s a lefty disguised as a Republican. If he runs for President on the Republican side, I’m going to write in Sarah Palin.
November 2, 2010 is the date it will be over.
I totally understand your sentiments.
I hope he goes through with this. The long knives will be out for him tonight.
These news sites are probably disseminating what amounts to propaganda foisted upon them by the White House, the Speaker of the House and who knows who else. Just as determined as many of us are to defeat this monstrosity, the sociallists are pulling out the stops to ram it down our throats. The intent of these stories is to demoralize those who oppose the eventual dictatorship the socialists want to impose on this great nation.
If they had the votes, it would be called to a vote.
Right you are. Guess which of the 50 states now has the *highest* health-care premiums. So much for socialized health-care containing costs.
And Altmier is very vulnerable. His district went for McCain by 10 points last election.
It is not being silly to promise to vote for a guy on something as important as this. I will do it, and it's been 30+ years since I have voted for any Democrat running for National office -- that was a congress critter name Don Bailey who was a good guy and ended up being screwed in redistricting by John Murtha. He was running against a corrupt PA GOP machine robot, and Bailey was the better man by far.
Good point. I’m inclined to go along with the 68% (Fox News poll) who said they want to vote out all the incumbents, not just the Democrats. It is long past time we clean house.
Wanna bet? Talk to me Monday morning.
Altmier was on the local TV news tonight announcing his decision for all to see.
There is no way in hell he can back out of it now.
The Republicans ran McCain, a hopeless RINO (bipartisan, reach across the aisle guy) in 2008. If they run Romney in 2012, I’ll be screaming. We need a real conservative. Enough of this kinder, gentler Republican Party. Time to run candidates who will kick azz and take names.
Sorry, Ditto, but anything can happen between now and Sunday. As you know, the Dem leadership is pulling out all the stops. Who knows what kind of bribe the White House/Pelosi may offer Altmier and others to persuade them to change their minds again? And if those bribes don’t work, well, they may be sending some big burly guy named Guido over to persuade them.
I can’t help but think that all this ‘announcing’ ahead of time is so the price of getting them to change their votes will go up.
I wouldn't say 'biased'. AP is just doing their job. They are a wholy owned subsidiary of the DNC. ;~))
