SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON: A US official identified as Michael Furlong organised a network of private contractors in Afghanistan and Pakistan with the purpose of finding and killing suspected militants, The New York Times reported Monday.

Citing unnamed military officials and businessmen in Afghanistan and the United States, the newspaper said Furlong, who works for the Defence Department, hired contractors from private security companies that employed former CIA and Special Forces members.

These people gathered intelligence on the whereabouts of suspected militants and the location of insurgent camps, the report said.

After that, the information was sent to military units and intelligence officials in Afghanistan and Pakistan for use in possible strikes, the paper said."

SNIPPET from the link in post no. 1:

"Some US officials said they were concerned that Furlong could be running an unofficial spy operation, adding they were not sure who condoned and supervised his work, The Times said."

Yeah...and?

Its call "initiative."
Something sadly missing in the last few years.

Why is the New York Times revealing this?

When does blowing the cover on US military espionage activities become treason?

OPINION-SPECULATION:

Maybe when the next President is sworn in he can start the treason trials and military tribunals from Day 1 as well as rescuing the economy (if possible) and rebuilding all our letter intelligence agencies, our military, our homeland security....etc.

So, the nyt is working for the terrorists now, feeding them information on who’s after them by putting it in their paper? (or as the nyt prefers to call them, militants)

Guess nothings changed.

Yeah for the good guys!!! In case the nyt doesn’t understand, it’s the people on our side I’m cheering.... not you or your terrorists, or as you prefer to call them.... militant friends.

Why is the New York Times revealing this?

Because the right lets them get away with it.

Its a one way street, the leftists get to undermine national security, capitalism, and conservatives , and the GOP gets to shut the hell up and take it or else.

Until the right takes a lesson from Putin and Chavez and puts a little bit of fear in these red SOB's hearts, this will continue to happen.

And its pretty irresponsible and cowardly of the right to have done nothing about it, even now.

Adapt and use tactics that the enemy has proven to be effective, or perish.

All out war against Sulzberger and his commie cadre of sex perverts, baby killers, and thieves should be declared in reaction to this.

So far nothing but chirping crickets.

We are on the same page. Eason and Pelton are blowing this out. A few familiar names from days gone past are included.
Experienced help is hard to find...and this is why.

Mr. Furlong might have channeled money away from a program intended to provide American commanders with information about Afghanistan’s social and tribal landscape, and toward secret efforts to hunt militants on both sides of the country’s porous border with Pakistan.

Trying to make a distinction between information about the Afghan "social and tribal landscape" and trying to identify "militants" along the "porous border" is nonsensical.

What does the NYT imagine our military WANTS information on the "social and tribal landscape" for? To write an article for the Worldbook encyclopedia?

It's to IDENTIFY OUR ENEMIES, jackasses.

Maybe The New York Times is blowing the operation on orders from Obama and Holder.

Isn’t this a-hole Eason Jordan referred to in the NYT story the SAME Eason Jordan of CNN who admitted to intentionally not reporting atrocities in Saddam’s Iraq in order to be on good terms with Saddam?

There really is an alliance of sorts between the Left and the Islamists against the U.S., and the Left has a foothold in Justice, State and the CIA (not to mention the White House).
