An interesting piece of music trivia.
I’ve waited sssoooooo long for the answer..../sarcasm/
Now I can finally get on with my life. All this time I thought it was Warren Beatty.
Can these people get any more full of themselves?
I always thought it was rhetorical. “You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you,” as if to say “it isn’t, smarty pants.” So if you think it’s about you, you’re wrong.
Barack Obama?
And how interesting that they have to mention that David Geffen is gay.
but the guy who it is really about isn’t wrong
So David Geffen can say “Well Heck yeah, b****, it was about me wasn’t it?”
“Your So Vain” is about Carly Simon herself - then, and now.
Who cares. Now if someone can finally tell me the actual, true acronym to W.A.S.P., then I’ll give a damn.;)

Some guy won an auction and paid like 50K to know this about 10 years ago.
“An interesting piece of music trivia.”
I agree.
Every once in awhile, I hear this song and I’ve thought “Who was she talking about?”
Warren liked to claim it was all about him.
I always thought it was Warren Beatty.
So she wasn’t singing about him in the context of an ex-boyfriend but, as her record label boss, he was more interested in promoting Joni Mitchell.
Woman army service pilots.
I’ll tell you what the REAL revelation was. I just looked up “gavotte”.
From Wiki:
“Carly Simon’s song “You’re So Vain” includes the lyric “You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte”, in this context it can be taken to mean a pretentious or egotistical style of dancing.”
And all these years I assumed it was a slang term for... y’know, playing with oneself.
However, I can easily imagine David Geffen watching himself dancing and prancing in the mirror.
