Let's do away with pasteurized milk and stop using polio vaccines, stuff like that...

Because illegals and minorities would rather have freebies.

This is what it all boils down to. We will keep losing things until we stop the Detroit/New Orleans freeloader models.

A friend of mine sent me a PPT presentation of the steps they take to get it ready for launch. Held nose up in a hangar with elevators all around, electrical and data cables everywhere, I think it takes more time in prep than it does in orbit.

USUALLY they don’t retire something until they have a replacement. Maybe alot of the rumors are true, and they already do.

I think this is part of an agreement by Obama and the Russians to let them dominate space and begin to be a world power again.

We have the edge in terms of pure lifting power and comp tech. But the Russians have always been, all things being equal, superior in aerospace tech.

I remember my grandma taking us out on the front porch in December to watch Sputnik. Like in ‘61 or thereabouts!!

So Obama can level the playing field with China and Russia.

Because the space program is made up of educated professionals who don't ordinarily vote demoRat.

0bama0 would rather deny these people of the funds they might donate to opposing political views, and send the money to his pals at ACORN, or the SEIU.

N.A.S.A. has its head up its ass.
They have known for years the shuttle was getting old.
They did squat to get in position for replacement.

They say that as the fleet gets older the liklyhood is another catastrophy will happen.
N.A.S.A. lost its edge and became little more than another very large gub mint black hole.

Maybe we’re not ready, yet, for comfortable, near space flight for civilians. Here are a couple of reasons.

And there were the costs. ...not to mention personnel (oh, excuse me, “human resources”) problems. Maybe we could do better with space travel in a less politically correct country, after the big default, perhaps.

0bama did say he was going to slash the budget and debt. Guess this is how he plans to do it. Eliminate our space program, eliminate the F-22, reduce the F-35 program ...

I think there are quite a few 747’s in the air that are older than the shuttles.

Spare parts, man. Gotta think outa the box.

I was around then. I didn't see Sputnik but several people I knew saw it. I do remember seeing Telstar. I grew up in Orlando. They took us out of class and onto the playground to watch Alan Shepherd blast off. Cape Canaveral was about 45 miles east.

NASA has decided that tracking Global Warming is their primary mission. As maintenance intensive as the old shuttle is, they don’t have time to keep it running and also rewrite the AGW database every time the numbers come in “wrong”, which seems to be every year. We also don’t have the money to do something useful (like build the scheduled shuttle replacement) while Obama/Pelosi’s priority is massive payoffs to UAW, SEIU, society’s parasites, and other Dem interest groups.

747’s ?
HOw about those B 52’s?
STresses on shuttle launches far exceed those of jets or planes.
Also there is that little national pride thing. We blow another one full of astronaughts and we look like dumb asses next to the E.U. and Russia.

I think that is true of most aircraft. I now fighters spends 10s of hours for every flight hour.

The Space Shuttle is old technology. We should have developed a replacement, but didn't, so the shuttles are still flying. Very soon, we will be begging the Russians for a ride to the ISS.

The shuttle is not without problems. We've lost two of them and their crews. Could we build something better? Of course, but with the gelding of American manned space flight, look for long delays in any replacement.

No. He wants these “educated professionals who don’t ordinarily vote demoRat” to join the lines for positions at fast food joints in the name of “leveling the playing field” and “fairness”. Nothing personal - just the change “we all voted for” in action.
