GOP's Jeb Hensarling Destroys MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Obama Deficit Spending - Video 2/1/10

Here is video of GOP Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling destroying MSNBC's Chris Matthews on the discussion of President Obama's deficit spending and his proposed Federal Budget. It so frustrated Chris Matthews that he resorted to an old Democrat trick, as he tried to corner Hensarling into saying he wanted to "cut" Social Security Benefits in order to balance the budget.

Matthews kept putting words in Hensarling's mouth, trying to take Hensarling's conviction that we must "reform" the way we plan to deal with Social Security for those now 55 and under, and assert that "reform" equals "cut."

On the merits of Obama's deficit spending, Matthews tried to absolve Obama of responsibility by saying he "inherited" a huge deficit from President Bush. But Hensarling would not let him do so, reminding Matthews that only Congress can spend money, and the deficit he inherited was from a Democrat Congress! . . . (VIDEO)

The Tingler is such a moron. The guy had some good ideas for Social Security. It is bankrupted. We should means test it now and pay off the older folks and let the kids get on real defined benefit plans. It is a failed socialist experiment. Same with all the goofy socialist programs.

MSNBC should go ahead and file bankruptcy if they keep this Matthews idiot on deck, among a few others.

Did Chris forget anything during the interview? Like the race of people around him, or the fact that he’s a moron?

I very rarely watch Chris Matthews. I know him for what he is. We all do. It's not a secret. Still, to sit and watch this guy, for the first time in probably 6 months, it's amazing to me what a shameless ideologue he is. He has no interest in what the congressman has to say. Matthews just wants to defend Obama, attack Bush, and score rhetorical points.

That's not journalism. Or, it's not what journalism was meant to be. But I guess that's what passes for journalism today. Utterly shameless.

Not having television, I don’t get to see Matthews much, but his interview style reminded me of some of what I heard on Air America the few times I tuned in. It was “heavy handed adversarial” interviewing. And embarrassing for Matthews.

From this Link:

"Obama is right. Monthly deficits under the recent Democratic Congresses don't exceed annual deficits under those Republican Congresses. But they come pretty darn close.

Hensarling's comments likely emerged from a release issued by the Republican Study Committee just yesterday, showing that the total accumulated deficit from Republican-controlled budgets from FY 1996-FY 2007 (and factoring in the substantial surpluses run from 1998-2001) stands at just under $1.246 trillion. The deficit run by Democratic-controlled Congresses in just three years — starting with FY2008 and including the latest CBO projections for FY 2010 — is already $3.222 trillion.

That means that over twelve years of Republican rule, there was an average annual budget deficit of about $104 billion. Compare that with an average annual deficit since 2008 of $1.074 trillion — or about $90 billion per month.

No need to trust the GOP document either. The CBO has all the data in a handy downloadable spreadsheet HERE

Matthews stated that tomorrow Republican leadership will be backing away from the statements of this representative. I hope the Republicans come out in force behind him. We all know SS is going bankrupt and will not be there for us. We need to be preparing for that instead of throwing money into a dying program.

Thanks. I felt the same way. Enough with this polite tone already! Grow a spine, go to Debate Class 101 or sit with an opposing lawyer taking a deposition from you for a few hours - you'll learn to listen REAL carefully to word dissection and twisting.

It's simply amazing how many times I hear Chrissy or these other Libtards twist the 'polite, demure' Republican's words RIGHT TO THEIR FACE and they either ignore or just Gomer-Pyle it and Yuck, Yuck, No Sir/Ma'am, Your fibbin'

I love when I hear Ann Coulter, John Bolton, or the guy from around 2004 - Chris somebody? just NOT let these idiots twist your words but, instead, turn them around and make the host hoist on their own petard.

That's why I like J.D. Hayworth so much. He's one of the few who can articulately, succinctly, and forcefully call the Rats out on their crap...yet be polite at the same time.

Focus and articulation, you people. It's what we need. And great sound bites don't hurt either!
