After fighting with my wireless connections between my Vista and my friend's Windows Seven pc, I discovered Network Magic.
I installed the trial version of the program which is up in two more days and now, I'm looking for a similar 'free' program.
Everything has run smoothly since I have been using the program 'but' I am really not in a position to shell out the $50.00 that it will cost after the trial period is over.
Hoping that someone has run across a similar program?
It would be well worth the cost if I could afford it right now!
It automatically sets up the connections between the pc's. Sets up file sharing and monitors everything!
If something goes wrong, (it hasn't), the program scans for the problem and solution and fixes it.
A wonderful program .. I just can't afford it right now.
Thanks Everyone
Unfortunately, I do not know of any other tool that does what Network Magic does.
I was afraid of that.
The program really is a miracle worker!
Right from the start, it set up and ran everything as smooth as silk!
I guess I don’t see the point. I was able to set up the networking on my own with no problems. Convenience comes with knowledge.
The problem is with the networking of Vista 64BIT with the new Windoze Seven 64BIT.
I had no problems when it was Vista and XP.
The cost of one "Obamahealth" prescription, or a week's worth of food would pay for it.
Quit whining!
I could, and did set up the connection but the connection kept dropping out and I’d have to run the windows analyze and fix networking program more often than not.
Not only that .. I’d show a connection 9 out of 10 times but couldn’t get to the internet.
(kept saying local connection only and would never find a reason why)
Network Magic set up and connected Everything .. Right off the bat and I haven’t dropped a connection since.
Thanks for the help.
Cheap, Fast, Good ... pick two.
I had no problem with networking my new Win7 64 bit and my son’s Vista 64 bit.
I don’t know enough about networking to know When I’ve screwed something up.
I suspect that when I disconnected the XP 32BIT computer that was the wired access point and connected the windoze seven up to become the access point .. I screwed something up.
My Vista is on an adapter and That is the one that was giving me the problem.
Wireless networking can be really easy, or a big PITA. One small thing can prevent you from success.
If you ditch the Network Magic and have to do it on your own, I would suggest checking out a forum for the brand adapter you have. I run a Netgear router and wireless adapter, and have fixed any of my problems by posting on their forum.
If it’s a Windows issue, I believe Microsoft has a similar forum for their software and OS’s.
Thanks Born Conservative!
I have the Netgear router and adapter myself 8)
Good luck. http://forum1.netgear.com/
I have a Linksys router and a DSL modem. At least once a day the router and modem will not talk to each other. I have to go to the basement and unplug both the router and the modem. This reboots them, and then everything is fine for awhile
Update the adapter drivers on both systems and update the firmware on the router. Most likely that will fix your problem with the dropouts, etc... Also, sometimes there is software that comes with the router that helps ease the kind of pain your seeing, you can probably find it on the Netgear website as well, which is also where you’ll find the drivers for at least one of your network cards and the firmware for the router.
Other than this, I would double check your firewall settings on the WAP PC and all other PCs connected to the WAP.
Thank You jurroppi1
I’ll try your suggestions.
