VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Guinness World Records said a Virginia man's constantly growing chewing gum wrapper chain was named the top stunt of the past decade.
Gary Duschl of Virginia Beach got 62 percent of the online votes for the top stunt category on the Guinness Web site, beating out a man who swallowed swords and another who placed rattlesnakes in his mouth, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday.
"It's an honor, and I'm very pleased to be even in the top 100, but to make it in the top 10, boy, I'm just amazed with that," said Duschl, whose gum wrapper chain included 1,462,066 wrappers strung together for a total 61,988 feet Dec. 11.
Duschl, who began his wrapper chain in 1965, said he is aiming to have the chain reach 26 miles in length.

Making gum wrapper chains was a huge fad when I was in Junior High back in the early 70's. Mine eventually made it's way up to 70-some feet long after many hours of work - mostly while mindlessly parked in front of the tube. I thought that was huge, but it was child's play for this guy. I think I might even have it still packed away somewhere down in my basement :).

Mine is still in the attic, made in the early 60’s. As I recall, much of mine was made at school.
