The biggest gift came from Swift herself. The singer has donated $250,000 to schools around the country that she's either attended or worked with. The money will pay teachers' salaries as well as buy books and fund various educational programs.
"Something I wanted to do at the end of this amazing year and especially on my birthday was give back to something I really believe in, which is education," says Swift. "The schools that I went to and the amazing people I got to learn from really turned me into who I am, and I wanted to give back."

Maybe it's just because, as a product of public schools, I believe they are evil.
She’s 20 though so she likely doesn’t realize that lots of schools contain very liberal teachers. I don’t know that after starting her music career at around 12 when they moved to Nashville (or maybe 14, but 1 of the 2) she paid much attention to anything but music and finishing school.
She’s a pretty talented and smart cookie with great parents that are doing a great job helping her through the pitfalls of super stardom so far (IMHO) and I’ll bet she wises up before too long.
Also, how many celebs ever give back? So kudos to her for trying and thanks you Feline_AIDS for posting this story! I love Taylor Swift’s music!
I hope as her income grows, she doesn’t get political like Faith Hill and The Dixie Chicksters.
No matter what her politics are, she should keep them to herself. And just do what she does real well. Write and Record good songs.
I don’t see a problem, here. She’s 20, and wants to be nice to people who were nice to her, while she was growing up.
Well, I sure didn’t have $250K to give anyone on my 20th or 30th or 40th birthday, so not so sure what I’d do with that amount, But, she gave specifically to schools SHE had attended and where she felt that SHE had learned and had positive experiences. It probably wasn’t political at all. Literally just a ‘giving back’ to those she believes have made her what she is today. Sometimes it can be pretty simple.
Swift graduated from the Aaron Academy, a Christian school in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
A foolish comment, at best. The article does not say what schools she donated to. She graduated from a Christian school.
Well, I want to thank that jerk named Kanye West for interrupting her in that awards ceremony. I never heard of her before then because I gave up on today’s music when rap crap became popular. But when that jerk made an idiot out of himself, I decided to watch videos of both Taylor and Beyonce and decide for myself. It was no contest and I decided to view other works of hers. I have since become a true fan of her as a singer, a writer and a person. She is beautiful outside and in.
Your donation to schools was good and I'm gonna let you finish....but Barak's donation of tax-payer's money to acorn was the best donation ever. Best donation ever.

I tell you what, watch this music video of hers. Listen to the lyrics, listen to her sing about family, God and where she grew up. Taylor Swift is a gem.
There could not be a single FReeper who dislikes what this young lady has produced in this video and this song.
It’s possible that the schools she attended were NOT run by libs. There are some public schools that are not. As far as I’m concerned, as long as she’s giving them her OWN money, I don’t have a problem with it.
I dunno... I don’t see how giving back to the schools she attended can be construed a ‘liberal’ act. It is her own money, she got them from legal sources, and nothing from the government.
bookmarked for later
Facts? What have mere facts when compared to an ignorant rant?
“The singer has donated $250,000 to schools around the country that she’s either attended or worked with.”
That should clear up some of the mystery for you.
What is the name of the song? I went to the link and it was commments and there was nudity there so I didn’t stick around to try to find the song.
“commments”
Preview is your friend. ;)
The article doesn’t say whether she donated to public or private or Christian schools. Your assumption that the donation was to public schools, and that she was “a lib” was unwarranted.
I can't imagine what you saw with the link but I'll check it out. Very odd.
