I’m with you. I wish I could eat the food he showcases. Well, I could but I’d be 300lbs. and would probably need a triple bypass.

“Bourdain gave similarly derisive comments to the press about Fieri, telling TV Guide, “Did you ever see the Simpsons episode where it's decided that Itchy and Scratchy need a sidekick? So a committee gets together and they invent one called Poochie... Guy Fieri kind of looks like he's been designed by committee”

I like Guy, although he can be annoying, but the Poochie remark is spot on and hilarious.

Sorry, but Giada has all the culinary chops of the average McDonald's employee.

She cooks?

My brother went to Johnson & Wales University with Bourdain, attended many of the same classes and shared quite a few nights out on the town. Said that Bourdain cultivated an "edgy" personality and is really serious about his craft. His humor is great as long as he isn't pointing it at you, if you know what I mean...

These two guys work at opposite ends of the business - they both appeal to a completely different group of people. Bourdain eats "squeezle" in the mountains of Vietnam while getting plastered with the village communist. Guy raves about Mother Jones' meatloaf along with the farmers in Podunk, Iowa. Both draw an audience. Both networks profit.

And my opinion on the FieRi-FieTi debate is that Guy's pronunciation is a short rolled "r" that comes out like a "d". His name, his business. Who cares.

I think diners, drive-ins and dives is awesome. I also like that Bourdain actually makes fun of the FN stars. The Poochie remark is one of the funnier ones I can recall.

The problem with Giada is that she smiles too much.

If I had a chest like that, I'd smile all the time too. And I'm a guy.

nuts. I hate it when I write something all authoritatively and find out later that I’m wrong. My brother’s story wasn’t about Bourdain. Nevermind my previous statement.

My nephew and Guys’ kids are both on the same baseball team.

He is in person a very normal, thoughtful and enthusiastic person and as good a dad as you are likely to find.

I find the criticism of him by the likes of Bourdain to be petty and class based. Guy is from middle class stock and remembers his roots and has avoided for the most part, the navel gazing approach to food taken by the likes of Bourdain et al. He lives in Santa Rosa Calif, not New York or LA. He spotlights the kind of food I want to eat, in the places I would never know about.

He had a piece on DD&D about a place in my hometown I had never heard of. We went and were stuned to learn of such an amazing restaurant in my own town that I didn’t even know existed!

Bourdains “food show” on the Travel Channel (?!) jumped the shark for me when his show on New Orleans turned into an hour long Bush bashing session over Katrina.

Screw the lefty foodies with their self absorbed TV shows and by all means spare me their sermonizing, I will take 10 episodes of Diners Drive In’s and Dives over any day.

Cheers,

*burp*

And he cooks nothing any of us couldn’t.

Which is why people like him. If I want to watch someone produce dishes that I could never make or choke down with exotic ingredients I could never find or afford I will watch Iron Chef.

If I want to get an idea for a new type of dish to make for dinner then "Guy's Big Bite" or Triple D is nice, amusing and productive 1/2 hour.

There is one thing which comes through very clearly wiht the places Guy visits: all the places are run by small business people who have pride in their work, their business, their value to the community. There are no SEIU slugs holding job spots for a paycheck and with no pride in workmanship, just real small business owners and workers doing their best to get it done for their customers, with pride. ... So anti-obamaesque don’tchaknow.

Good point, that's very true.
