I know. Never having been a mother I must not appreciate what it's like. Sorry but for me, I just think it's inappropriate.
For the life of me I can not figure out how a person on a conservative web site could be disgusted by a women breast feeding in public. It's not a question of modesty, it's a Mother nurturing her child.
Perhaps my wife should reply. Shortly after we were engaged, we were in a restaurant and a woman in my direct view decided to breast feed her baby. I expressed my disgust to my then future wife. She laughed in seeming disbelief and reacted similarly to you. We have since agreed to disagree on this matter. She's never feed any of our children in public while I was present and I never concerned myself with what she did when I wasn't present.
Disagree very strongly. This is a fad — nobody in the US was doing this in public until quite recently. It simply exhibitionism and it’s obnoxious.
>>>A New Mexico woman kicked off an airplane at the Burlington International Airport three years ago for breast feeding her baby
Oh she was nursing ? I guess then that explains what the short bald guy was doing. My mistake.
LOL,,,Feed that kid...;0)
Are you saying that there's something abnormal about nursing a toddler? I haven't seen any evidence to back up that claim. In fact, the minimum predicted age for a natural age of weaning in humans is 2.5 years1. Do you have evidence to support your assertion?
that’s a strange jusgement to make. I think there’s something wrong with the person who wants to expose herself and uses her child to do it.
It is absolutely a question of modesty.
Urinating in public infringes upon the rights of others by exposing them to the bacteria, viruses, and odors associated with the excretion of biological waste. Nursing a baby in public infringes upon nobody’s rights.
The how come this wasn’t common practice thirty, forty years ago?
I nursed my babies and occasionally I nursed in public if it became necessary. I never understood what the fuss was about.
Then I went out for the afternoon with a nursing friend who, no joke, lifted her top and pulled up her bra in full view of God and everyone. THEN, she settled herself, and then she started feeding her baby. I wanted to die.
In these situations I'm never sure if we're dealing with one of "those" nursing moms or bystanders who are like many of the ridiculous posters here.
Well your a good man and we can understand or differences while being civil.
I also nursed all of mine, and tried to be as discreet as possible, but by around 2 1/2 months they alway took it as a mission to yank off any extra cover I put. It is easy to have a nursing shirt, and be PRETTY modest, but anyone determined to stare could see that I was nursing.
I wish my late grandmother were here to read your comment. She'd no doubt have gotten a laugh out of it, since she had twelve children (over the period 1918-1946) and nursed every one of them whenever they were hungry, whether in public or not.
The truth is more like "nobody was bothered by this until recently". I blame the overall lack of emotional maturity among American men, many of whom are psychologically little more than overgrown teenage boys, for the recent scandal over breastfeeding.
It was. Nobody cared back then.
It’s also that they aren’t used to seeing it, so they’re shocked when they do.
You are the voice of sanity. Women should breast feed. Just cover up a bit in public or on an airplane. I think this lady is a money grubber since this all happened three years ago
Some women get a little nutty too and exhibitionist where they want to boast to the entire world they are breastfeeding. Fine but cover up a bit. In some situations I wouldn’t even care if they covered up or not. But for air travel I say be modest and discreet when feeding the baby
Nothing like having a mother heave out a big breast in a restaurant and ruin everyone else's appetite...same on a plane...
If half of the plane got up and gawked at her all the time she was feeding, that would offend her also....
That’s probably true. However, the shock of the unfamiliar is no reason for somebody’s mom to be asked to leave an airplane. When I see something shocking (that’s not otherwise a crime or a danger to me or others), I just look the other way. If I can’t look the other way, I act like a grownup and pretend that I don’t see it.
I cannot for the life of me understand how seeing a baby eat could ruin anybody’s appetite. Honestly, it just baffles me.
