Woman sues Delta; was kicked off plane for breast feeding

A New Mexico woman kicked off an airplane at the Burlington International Airport three years ago for breast feeding her baby is suing Delta Air Lines.

The Burlington Free Press says negotiations failed to reach a settlement between the Atlanta-based airline and Emily Gillette.

On Wednesday Gillette filed suit in U.S. District Court in Burlington.

Gillette was ordered off a Delta Connections plane by a flight attendant after twice refusing an order to cover up while she breast fed her baby prior to takeoff.

Gillette's lawsuit says she felt "shame and embarrassed" after being ordered off the plane.

Delta refused to comment on the suit, but a spokesman says the airline supports a mother's right to breast-feed.

Nurse in private. Bottle it before a trip on a plane.

Took her three years to be “shame[d] and embarrassed”?

I guess the good news is...that is you are ever stuck on one of those multi-hour tarmac waits...start breastfeeding and you’ll get kicked off. :o)

Why is Wil Wheaton breast feeding a baby in an airplane?

Amen!

Nursing is a perfectly natural and loving function, but cover up! You should be ashamed, Mom, since you obviously thought it was okay to show your breasts uncovered to the folks on the plane.

Trashy.

Nurse in private? Why? It’s not like a nursing mother is taking a leak or a dump, which could infringe upon the rights of others with odors or germs. Feeding a baby at the breast infringes upon nobody’s rights. (There is no right not to be exposed to people whose appearance disturbs or offends you.)

If the sight of a breastfeeding mother disturbs or offends you, simply avoid looking at her. I would also suggest that you seek counseling in order to discover why the sight of the female breast causes you emotional trauma.

Even in my days as a red blooded single male, I was always disgusted by women nursing in public.

Nurse in private? Why?

Because it's civilized.

Indecent exposure, and she’s definitely guilty.

I hope the judge throws it out, but I know it won’t be.

Agreed. I really don't understand people who are so uptight that the sight of a woman's breast causes them to wrinkle their noses in disgust. Breasts are for feeding babies. If you are uncomfortable with that fact then you should question yourself why.

Yeah, what the hell. The flight attendants could have removed their tops as well. So silly, this covering up breasts thing huh?.

It’s neurotic. It’s like getting offended by somebody eating a sandwich in public.

The way I read this she was not kicked off for breastfeeding. She was just asked to cover up while she did so. A towel over the shoulder in other words.

Instead, she wanted to suckle her rugrat with her boobs hanging out for everyone to see. THAT’s what got her kicked off the plane, and deservedly so, in my opinion.

It’s rare these days, but there used to be this thing called decent behavior. Breastfeeding can be done in public with tact and decorum, but it does not need to be flaunted, nor should it be.

If I saw a woman with her breast in a baby’s mouth on an airplane, it would, instantly, cause a traumatic reversion in me. I would be terribly scared!

I was an abused child.

...And, I still remember the horror of that breast being shoved in my mouth!!! LOLOLOL
