John Travolta may be close to leaving the Church of Scientology, according to a new report.
The actor - along with fellow Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise - is one of the most high-profile members of the controversial organisation, and has been for 34 years.
But his faith in L Ron Hubbard's teachings is said to have been severely shaken by the death of his autistic son Jett following a seizure in January.
Those close to Travolta who only publicly acknowledged his son's autism after the 16-year-old's death say that the tragedy has prompted the actor to question his blind acceptance of Scientology's recommendations regarding Jett's treatment.
The 'Church' doesn't recognise autism as a clinical condition that requires treatment with conventional drugs, and instead promotes the use of detoxification programmes and vitamins to treat the symptoms.
"There have been strong rumours coming out of Scientology that John Travolta is disappointed that the religion was not able to help his son more," author and lecturer on Scientology, Rick Ross, tells the Daily Mail.
"It's led him to question his faith."
It's claimed Travolta wasn't happy when senior Scientology members instructed him to undergo sessions with an ethics officer, to establish whether he or his family's 'negative influences' might have contributed his son's death.
But cutting loose from Scientology after such a long time may not be easy, especially given the rumours that the organisation has files on Travolta's personal life, including his alleged homosexual encounters.
"I think it would be very difficult for John Travolta at this stage, given his history with the religion, to extricate himself from the Church of Scientology," says Ross.
"It would be a huge move on his part because Scientology keeps files on its celebrity members containing embarrassing personal information about them.
"And Scientology has proven in the past that it has a penchant for releasing that information to embarrass people who have left and who have said things it doesn't like.
"If celebrities leave, they tend to do it quietly and keep their mouths shut, because if they do speak out, they are opening themselves up to attack from Scientology.
"That's why I think Travolta will want to keep his problems with the Church private."
Travolta has led a largely reclusive existence in the six months following his son's death.
In a rare public sighting in Miami last week, the grieving actor looked bloated and dishevelled as he tucked into a cheeseburger and chips alone outside a fast-food restaurant.
But those who know Christ often suffer devastating loss.
Sons of lovers of Christ die. Wives of lovers of Christ die. Husbands of lovers of Christ die. Often in overwhelmingly tragic circumstances with overwhelmingly tragic consequences for those left behind.
Don’t let’s set a false standard. “Rain falls on the good and on the bad” (the just and the unjust). That’s Scripture.
“If only hed bought in at 1 higher level.”
My engrams are starting to itch.
“Strip!”
I did NOT post these for shock value, but they're out there. These photos are all over the net, so it's not like the rumors would be a huge shock. I figured he was gay when the took the mom part in Hairspray.
I have sympathy for him losing his son. If I lost one of my children, I don't know how I'd deal with it. I hope he finds faith, but he's going to go through a dark valley, especially if he finds out that the Scientology treatment prevented his son from getting real treatment.
What’s the big idea of putting advertising links in your post?
What a sad story. Prayers for Travolta and Kelly Preston to break free of this cult’s stronghold and find comfort and redemption in Christ.
Heartbreaking.
If he comes our way, we should welcome our brother back with open arms.
Amen. Whatever Scientology has on him and his family we should be supportive and realize what the cult’s motives are.
The Church of Scientology will be forever indebted to John Travolta, the man who persuaded Bill Clinton to change the COS’s status and recognize it as a tax exempt church.
HOW DARE THEY!!!
Travolta is suffering over the loss of his dear son. The poor man is overcome with grief.
I pray for the sake of his remaining child "Ella" that he overcomes his severe depression.

“You can check out any time you like...but you can never leave...”
God can perform miracles. He may yet save this lost sheep.
“Hell is not a place we want anyone to go to after death.”
In reading Homer’s “Odyssey,” the first place visited by Odysseus was Hades. Hades, at that tine, included nice places such as the Elysium, and places such as the hill Sisyphus was tormented with - for punishment.
Christians later invented our modern Hell — as described in Dante’s “Inferno” and Miltons “Paradise Lost.”
Happy reading.
Of course Christians suffer terrible losses. But if they continue to press into God and not turn away from Him, He is able to work something good out of it. Some outside of Christ will turn to Him when the bottom falls out of their world. They are all seeking God but many don’t realize it. They jump into cults instead. I pray he leaves this cult and finds the one true God.
I was thinking about this some more. And i’m pretty sure I remember reading in reader’s digest about john travolta a few years ago and the article there said they were related some how.
Might that be because they are related?? Hmmm??
