WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- Police released audio of a 911 call they received on Wednesday from a man who said he was about to rob a bank.

The call was placed to the 911 center in Haywood County by a man who identified himself as Terrence Germani and who described himself as “mentally unstable.”

The caller then told the operator his location and what he was wearing. He then told the operator that he was going to “rob the Wachovia bank.”

“I can’t live in this world with the rest of the regular people,” the caller said. “I need to be back in prison.”

The man also told the operator that he was not armed and that he had a note he was going to use in the robbery.

The call continued for about another two minutes before the man hung up.

Detective Ryan Singleton with the Waynesville Police Department said the man had quit his job as a sandwich maker and had given his possessions to a roommate before going to the bank.

There are a lot of people who actually like being in jail. They don’t have to make decisions, their work is already determined, and they obviously build a social network that is supportive to them. I once worked with a group that dealt with a lot of ex-cons, and many of them were actually perfectly nice guys but very weak - and they actually wanted to be back in jail. Sad.

“I need to be back in prison.”

...

" Terrence Joseph Germani, 52, was charged with felony attempted common law robbery and was being held in the Haywood County jail on $15,000 bond."

Problem solved, no muss, no fuss.

I have a friend who is an ex-con. He has been having a world of trouble getting any job once prospective employers find out he was once a thief. I am happy he hasn’t gone into the, “I’d rather be in jail” mindset, though.

I’m sure it’s hard. There are “reentry” programs sponsored by churches and various organizations, though, and maybe he could benefit from one of those.

Kinda makes you wonder what those eyes are focusing on, don’t it? Maybe the chartreuse leprechauns dancing on the photographer’s shoulders?

Where might information be found out about these? I know he would be all over something like that. He really wants to be able to work.

What will this cost the taxpayers every year?
