There are a lot of people who actually like being in jail. They don’t have to make decisions, their work is already determined, and they obviously build a social network that is supportive to them. I once worked with a group that dealt with a lot of ex-cons, and many of them were actually perfectly nice guys but very weak - and they actually wanted to be back in jail. Sad.
I have a friend who is an ex-con. He has been having a world of trouble getting any job once prospective employers find out he was once a thief. I am happy he hasn’t gone into the, “I’d rather be in jail” mindset, though.
