Bing vs Google.
http://www.bing.com ^

Posted on 06/06/2009 5:48:28 AM PDT by NucSubs

I'm pretty sure that this is my first vanity post.

I just went to Google and today, on the 65th anniversary of the Normandy invasion, GOOGLE decided to celebrate...the 25th anniversary of the birth of TETRIS!

I had my fill with the smug, liberal indoctrination of Google ages ago but there was nowhere else to go (Yahoo was inferior or annoying in too many ways).

Well take courage all you Google haters. Microsoft just released last Tuesday (with little fanfare) their answer to Google.

BING.COM appears to be just as affective as Google and I think it is more attractive (my final analysis is not complete yet - it does appear to be about 90% of Google on image searches).

I will no longer be part of supporting the GOOGLE propaganda machine.

Oh, and if you need any more convincing, while GOOGLE has their name spelled out in TETRIS-like shapes, the BING.COM rotating daily picture is, today, an aerial shot of the Normandy beach.

There was a story last week about bing recording every keystroke. I’ll continue with google regardless of their politics.

You can turn the search history OFF, but that is unsettling.

Scary.

There is no context to what I was searching for.

It never fails. There is always one malcontent who feels the need to make his less than useful or pertinent opinion known in a sarcastic, bitter, or snide manner.

Unbelievable.

Before I unload on you, may I ask what in God’s name has rendered your life so meaningless that you felt the need to make that ridiculous, totally irrelevant comment in such a sarcastic manner to a man you have never met? What weakness of character compelled you to put snark to keyboard rather than just moving on? This was not a post about how wonderful abortion was or the need to embrace Islam.

MSNBC may be bad but how could BING be worse than Google? Clearly they showed more respect in this case.

I am asking.

Agreed.

And it should be reasonably close to Google in performance or switching would not make sense. That is why i never made the leap to Yahoo.

But from what can see (and I do SEO on the side so I spent the last week evaluating client results) BING looks every bit to be a really nice alternative to the smug “progressives” at Google.

I realize Microsoft tends to lean left as well (what major corporation does NOT?) but Utopia is not an option and the initial evidence seems to suggest Bing may be more tolerable for conservative sensibilities.

There’s no way anyone could be that dumb, man. Google chooses to honor stuff sometimes, and today they’ve chosen to honor Tetris, as opposed to D-Day. You see, there’s a relevance to the issue there, totally unnoticed by your post. Does this make sense to you?

Ding, ding, ding!

Nothing counters stupidity better than wisdom. Bravo.

I don’t think it’s worse, it’s just just as bad. Just had a proper look. It’s an exact google clone. Even wikipedia comes up in the top 2 results most of the time, just like google

Not awful though. Might be useful as a 2nd source. At least the results are fast unlike “Live” was

I guess my point is the same as the one you explained to the troll above. That at least BING seems to avoid the direct propagandizing of Google and even, at least in the case of D-Day, throws a bone to the good guys.

That has value. When my kids are surfing I’d rather they use BING and see a picture of Normandy or Washington crossing the Delaware that “happy Tetris Day!” or “Happy Homo Street Dancer day!”.

Sure. I just wish there was a _real_ alternative, not just a least-worst compromise. Like with politicians.

Simply because I don't have a problem with Google you felt compelled to write all that?

Talk about "less than useful".

I'm pretty sure that this is my first vanity post.

You could've used Google to figure out that it's not.

“because I don’t have a problem with Google”

No, that won’t wash. You turned it into an attack on the poster. Instead of just saying that you didn’t have a problem with Google, you attempted to ridicule the poster and his opinion just because it didn’t chime with yours. And yes, you do this kind of stuff all the time, like when you attack people for not using caps. It’s pointless, and yes it’s trollish behavior. You must be somewhat worthwhile, having held onto an account here for 9 years, but way too many times you just attack people like this that are perfectly decent conservatives, with absolutely no good reason. And then you have that graphic on your about page because you KNOW you piss people off all the time & they are going to look at your about page. The only reason I don’t assume you are a DU agitator sent here to piss decent people off is that your account is 9 years old.

I would recommend adding Bing to the “restricted sites” list in your browser, to turn off javascript etc. There is some aggressive data collection going on

And besides all that, WHY don't you have a problem with Google? The damn leftists clearly favor leftist causes & support dems financially. Then they are collecting a huge database on people as well with clear freedom issues. Seems to me any rational conservative is going to have some kind of a problem with that.

I could have, but I didn’t as its really not that important, but thanks for being pedantic and niggling in pointing that out

Apologies for my second vanity in three years.
