GEORGE TILLER knew the danger of providing late-term abortions. His home was picketed, his office was blown up and in 1993 he was shot in both arms by an anti-abortion zealot. He never considered stopping his work, because he knew there were women who needed his help. His murder is a tragedy for his family, his patients and his profession. It should serve as a wake-up call that more must be done to ensure that women have access to this legal procedure.
Mr. Tiller was shot to death Sunday as he handed out bulletins in his Kansas church and as his wife sang in the choir. Yesterday, authorities charged Scott Roeder with first-degree murder, and they are investigating what have been described as his virulent anti-abortion views. Mr. Tiller is the fourth abortion provider to be killed since 1993; the attacks he and his Wichita clinic endured are not isolated events. The National Abortion Federation has catalogued 6,143 such incidents of violence in the United States and Canada between 1977 and 2009, including arson, bombings and butyric acid attacks.
It is unclear how this violence has affected decisions by health-care providers. What is known is that the number of places where women can go for abortions has been declining since 1982. About one-third of women live in a county with no abortion providers, reports the Guttmacher Institute, and as a result a growing number of women have difficulty receiving the services in a timely manner.

did it mention how dangeoroud recruitment centers were?
0bama “stands down” on all terrorist cells and countries, but is at full alert for abortion clinic shooting attacks.
Freaking bizarre.
The contrast in news coverage and level of outrage expressed by various people, between the abortion doctor killing and the recruitment center killing, is a prime example of news media bias.
“Freaking bizarre”
More like “Freaking Coward”
Afterall, he doesn’t want to hurt his friends while on his trip.
Actually, the response from the left was less than I expected, at least so far. Could it be that Tiller was more of a liability to the left than a hero?
Let’s try a headline : Military Recruiters in the terrorists’ sights”.
Nah, not even the “new” Wash. Post. would write that.
It certainly is.
Where’s the barf alert?
Moderator, Please change (US Marshal Needed!) to (Barf Alert!)
When one of the high priests of “choice” is attacked, though, they send in the US Marshals. They even have their own creation myth and at long last, The One, in office.
If you think they intend to allow something silly tradition like democratic elections toss them out of power again, you should probably think twice.
Regards
Sounds like you think BABY KILLERS are GOOD GUYS!!!
There are a good many "churches" that do not consider his activities to be sin. Quite a few have, for all practical purposes, abortion as their main sacrament.
Whether that applies to his church, I do not know.
As such they, not "normal doctors", but part of the "culture of death".
They [abortionists] should not be killed or murdered, but they should not be treated as heroes for killing babies -- especially when some patients come to them in the 9th month of pregnancy -- just days or hours before going into labor.
Abortionists are normally rejects from med38ical school...
Some are attracted to this, as they can molest women/girls [and th38is has happened in the past].
Apparently the money attracted Tiller...
He had enough money to buy "Governor Sebel38ius"...
Broken keyboard... Spilled water on it...
The almost simultaneous shootings of the soldiers by that Muslim Jihadist and the killing of Tiller by Roeder has the leftists in a quandary. Muslims are supposed to be nice but misunderstood, not angry black militants waiting to kill soldiers and other conservative Americans.
The killing of Tiller on the one hand would seem to strengthen the case for gun control, on the other hand the killing of the soldiers strengthens the case for the need to carry for personal self defense as allowed for under the second amendment. Thus the quandary of the leftist gun control crowd; the 2 news stories nullify each other in terms of political effectiveness for the left.
Killer Tiller was shot in church. And there have been other shootings in churches recently. Shouldn’t the government be guarding our churches? Protecting our freedom of religion?
It was the best church money could buy.
My wife teaches at a leading (mostly liberal) medical school. Med students simply refuse to learn how to do abortions — an encouraging sign — even though most of them insist they are pro-choice. What’s the Post recommending? Mandatory abortion for docs? Not going to fly.
