Depends how much pain and suffering the killer gets.

“You have to consider the ferals and strays out there that must live outside....they deserve a life.”

Our newest cat was feral — found living under an outside stairwell in an apartment complex, and starving. Although she’s not a cuddler, she’s turned in to a wonderful, tame pet — and she’s safe. (We’ve seen too many cats who haven’t survived the coyotes here in S. Cal.) Now she’s happy to spend hours watching birds through the slider screen door.

"What a stupid thing to say. Phlegm wad."

Stupid only because it's true. Perhaps you've missed certain threads where FReepers have openly advocated the elimination of the breed through the cruelest means possible. They usually come from persons of limited intellect who resort to personal invective when confronted with facts and the truth. Kind of like you.

Sorry, you can’t love both cats and birds. This time of year cats are hunting nesting birds, soon they will be eating the baby birds who are learning how to fly. Owners who don’t have the decency to bell their cats deserve to find them dead.

That’s great you took her in. Here in South Florida there are at least on every corner...can’t take them all in...wish I could.

I own both cats and birds inside and out. I do like both. The raccons and other birds get the bird ‘eggs’ before they even hatch....

But they should be trapped and spayed. They wouldn’t have become feral in the first place if their ancestors had been kept inside.

You don’t have to be anything to try and understand animals.
You don’t know what I am, so again, bite me.
I’ve seen it too. But your desire to let your cat hunt is arrogant when you consider the cat needs to be protected by you.

There are predators, waiting for cats who like to hunt. Both the two-legged and the four-legged kind. Not to mention the diseases they can be exposed to when they come in and clean off their feet by licking them.

Wise up. Take care of your cats. Your bragging rights about your “hunter cat” are puny and selfish.

You’re 90???
Wow.

Since when have cats ever been confined by fences? They climb them or jump over them. You’re offering excuses.

Good on ya.

I know; it’s sad. Same thing when we lived in Hawaii. Stray, hungry cats everywhere. We did bring one home with us when we moved to the mainland. Can’t take ‘em all, sadly.

Owners who don’t have the decency to bell their cats deserve to find them dead.

Cats are predators, they are built to hunt. It's in their nature, that is what a cat 'is'. Birds are prey, just like rabbits, squirrels, mice and gophers. Killing a cat, simply because it was being a 'cat' makes no sense. Young birds that fall from their nest are prey, this is simply 'Nature'.

Similarily, dogs typically want to chase cats. Some dogs kill cats, others are content to play a game of chase. Putting a bell on your cat, alerts every dog in the area that a cat is close by. The cat cannot hide, for the bell will alert the dogs, and it's scent will give it away.

Intentionally killing someone's pet is something that shouldn't be taken lightly. This will create legal issues as well as neighbor issues. Kill a neighbor's pet for stepping on your lawn, then you had better watch your pet every moment of the day and night. For as soon as your pet leaves your property, it's fair game. That's not the kind of neighbor relations I would want around my home. I've found that a simple civil visit, and polite requests go a long way to maintaining the peace.

In my experience, I have never met an unreasonable pet owner - I'm not saying they aren't out there - I just haven't met one. All you have to do is say "I have some baby birds in a tree outside of my house, and I've seen your cat stalking them; please keep your cat away from my birds" and that should be that. If you see the cat again, then firmer action can be taken "I've asked you to keep your cat away from my birds; the cat is still stalking them, if I see your cat on my property again, I'll be forced to take actions that neither of us wants". Civil, polite, firm and defendable. If you chose to offer the cat bell as a compromise, that is entirely your choice.

Well, my dear, if you're telling the truth on your "My Space" page, I'm closer to it than you are!

Absolutely. In Palm Beach County, it’s a law now to require spueter of your cats/dogs. I trap ferals/strays and get them fixed. Got 4 this week.
