Counterfeit Pesticide Products for Dogs and Cats (Frontline, Advantage)
EPA ^ | 04/22/2009 | EPA

Posted on 04/23/2009 9:35:41 AM PDT by LongElegantLegs

EPA, in cooperation with its state and regional regulatory partners, is announcing the issuance of stop sale, use, and removal orders to retailers and other distributors of certain counterfeit pesticide products for control of fleas and ticks on dogs and cats. The stop sale, use, and removal orders are intended to disrupt an effort to distribute counterfeit pet pesticides. The counterfeit pesticides appear to have been unlawfully imported and were packaged in cartons designed to look like legitimately registered pesticides available in the U.S. under the trade names "Advantage" and "Frontline." The orders prohibit retailers and other distributors from distributing or selling the counterfeit pesticide products and require their proper disposal.

Me, too. I always use Sergeant’s Flea shampoo. I like the smell and it really works.

Oh for crying out fricking loud.

Our retirement investments have been stolen, we have Obama’s Magic Adventures to deal with, the government wants to take our guns— while it begs for civil war and forces us into socialism. Our country is far less secure than it was only 90 days ago. We have seen our children and grandchildren placed in significant debt, so that a white hating Bimbo in the White House and his criminal dem party can give it to those that didn’t earn it..... and much, much more.

Now THIS! We get to live with fleas now?

What’s next, a shortage on Viagra??? Leave me alone world.... leave me the hell alone. LOL

I have a Jack Russel with severe allergies. She has been allergy tested and the things she was allergic to were all strange plants that I had never heard of. I have done EVERYTHING my vet and the allergy specialist has told me. Nothing helps. I am now giving her 1/2 Zyrtex in the morning and 1/2 at night just so she doesn't chew her feet off. I am afraid I may one day have to put her down if I can't find something to help this poor little dog. Any suggestions, anyone?

We moved our dogs from Frontline Plus to Advantix, and then moved them right back again.

A lot of dogs are permethrin-sensitive, and the permethrin in Advantix will cause severe itching for them.

Thanks for the heads up! We just checked our package of Frontline per the EPA website and we got the real deal.

I only buy these products from the Vet.
These counterfeit products have been around for a couple of years.

I don't need to worry. My kitties are strictly indoor-only in a 2nd floor apartment. They haven't had fleas in years.

Well, you could feed that to a cat, however your medical bills and loss of blood might just preclude that exercise.

I’ve found that foot chewing is more a symptom of boredom than anything physical.

Jacks are seriously high energy, high maintenance dogs who need constant stimulation.

Just a thought.

I use a topical product called “revolution” that seems to work well with my dogs, and the cat.

I haven’t had any problems so far, and have been using this product since it came out.

It is not only foot chewing and licking, it's face and ear scratching as well. Like I said I have given her every medicine available including Atopica which is the same drug given to prevent the rejection of transplanted organs in humans. I gave her weekly injections for 2 years, to desensitize her against the things that she showed to be allergic to. I bathe her every 4 days and put stuff in her ears daily. Nothing helps except predinisone and that swells her up and makes her sluggish. I gave her Benadryl twice a day until just recently when it didn't seem to help and I switch her to Zyrtec. I feel sorry for the little girl but I don't know what else to do for her. She is more trouble than the other 3 dogs combined, 2 of which are JRTs.

So far our dog is fine. Our cat however has had to switch before due to reverse sneezing.

I am sure someone has suggested this before, but just in case, I will mention it.

Many allergies in dogs can be started because of many of the ingredients in commercial dog food. Vets will suggest “hypo-allergenic” dog food, switching from chicken based to lamb based, etc.

Have you ever researched the raw meaty bone diet? I suggest you google Tom Lonsdale, and read up.

I have two Belgian Malinois who have been fed raw ever since puppyhood. They are now 9 and 10 years old, and have never been to the vet for anything except their puppy shots, and then rabies every three years. We live in the woods, with deer and other wild life all around. I have never used anything on them for fleas or ticks, and they have never had any trouble.

Healthy dogs can deal with these, but dogs fed commercial dog food are getting way more grains and starches than they can properly digest, and are not getting the raw enzymes and nutrients found in raw meaty non-weight bearing bones, organs, etc.

The money spent on the meat have saved us so much in vet bills. Our dogs have never had to have their teeth cleaned, either. Calculate how much that is over the years!

Also, our dogs are never bathed. Their breath is sweet and fresh, their coats do not smell, even when they have been in the farm pond, and their poop crumbles away to a white powder after a day or so. Neither do I have to express their anal glands, since the stool is much firmer than that on dog food, and does the job naturally.

Just something for you to think about while you research Tom Lonsdale’s approach to proper feeding of canines.

Your the first post that was aware of the counterfeits. I have been telling my clients that the Co-Ops, Tractor Supply, Catalog veterinary drug dealers, Pet Med Express and many of the chain feed stores get their Frontline and Advantage from questionable suppliers. This has been going on for years and I have been dealing with the feedback and problems with them for over 25 years. Only a veterinarian has the product from the direct supplier and it is the integrity of the veterinarian that guarantees that the product is the original. Unfortunately, there are some greedy vets that sell their souls to get the products to the public...damn the problems and side effects.

About two years ago I even got to see some Frontline being sold in a Co-op that didn't even have the words on the packaging spelled correctly. As the adage states, you get what you pay for....
