In a mixed martial arts event with plenty worth noting, UFC 97 will likely be remembered for Chuck Liddell's fourth loss in five fights and his apparent departure from the sport he helped build from the ground up.
The 39-year-old Liddell said it was "probably safe to say" his career was over after he was knocked out by Mauricio Rua in the first round on Saturday night.

If Ali’s Parkinson disease was brought on by excessive blows to the head in about 10 years I’d say we are going to have a lot of ex UFC comatants with brain issues. Harsh to say but look at how they bash each other’s heads in.
Chuck ...God love him....is punnywhipped. (like me)
Uriah Faber is the best asskicker pound for pound.
Sorry I meant to say UFC combatants.
they don’t take as many hits as the boxers....with less padding their’s is over and out much quicker
with proepr delivery
most fights end on the mat in submission
“they dont take as many hits as the boxers”
Did you see the Forest Griffin - Stephan Bonner fight a couple of years back? Toe to toe head shots for three rounds.
Nope. He has one loss. To one Ryan Ackerman back in ‘03. He beat Ryan in an ‘05 re-match.
37-1 record.
One of the best fights ever

I don’t know. Hard to say there weren’t any consequences to Ali’s fights from Manila on. However, I think it’s largely a genetic thing. Are there statistics available demonstrating that boxers contract these sort of disorders more than the general population.
Actually, I think boxing is much worse with the padded gloves and continuous pounding even after one has been knocked onto queer street. MMA fights end much quicker with much less total sustained blows.
Brown got a good punch Faber carelessly (which as we all know is his modus operandi) walked into trying to throw a backfist off the fence.
Faber will be back, he's pretty young.
Torres is indeed very good...gotta love a mullet anyhow. I think he did lose one....in the beginning.
That's the thing about this pit fighting...unlike Don King's world, none of these guys can remain undefeated. It's like bar fighting...somebody will always come along and kick yer ass.
Yep, that Griffin Bonner fight was something else...maybe the best ever.
I know these new guys are trained and obviously PROMOTED better than Gracie, Okarov, Tank, Shamrock and Severin were but with the new rules it makes me wonder how these new guys would hold up dealing with the old rules which were just no eye gouging or biting...remember.
Now they breaks for low blows and no hitting the back of the head and whatnot...it is different.
I don't watch any aside from WEC and UFC , do ya’ll?
My 20 year old elder daughter loves this stuff...goes without saying my young lads eat it up.
It's fairly pure.
I tell you who is overrated is Kimbo Slice....geez....ferocious looking but aside from brawling skills he's nothing...course...it worked for Tank Abbott for awhile.
There is a lot of this here in Nashville, lots of schools and clubs ...both AEC and UFC branches..
Chuck’s last few fights were poor. This Satuday in particular. A guy who’s mostly a fist striker needs speed.
getting older doesn’t mean faster.
God bless him and good luck.
