Update: Team president David Montgomery says that Harry Kalas is dead at age 73.
Bad news for Phillies fans: announcer Harry Kalas is found passed out in the press box and rushed to GW Hospital.
Philadelphia Phillies president David Montgomery says team broadcaster Harry Kalas has been taken to a hospital after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game at the Washington Nationals.

Sad Phillies news.
Like his great buddy and Phillies broadcaster, Richie Ashburn, died on a Phillies road trip. Even more with his boots on than Richie.
MY condolances and prayers to the Kalas family, Phillies and thier fans.
We went through last year in Braves land with the passing of the great Skip Carey.
I feel sad for all the kids (including my own) who will never hear a Phillies game called by Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn. Together, they were the best announcer team ever.

We lost our voice today,” team president David Montgomery said. “He knows the game and made a tremendous contribution to the sport and to our organization . . .
“Anybody who has played for us, it’s an immediate point of connection with the club. He is the Phillies.”
The Phillies were told the news at 1:20 p.m.
Montgomery described the team as “stunned.”
Kalas collapsed in the press box and was was found at about 12:30 p.m. by Rob Brooks, the Phillies’ director of broadcasting. Emergency medical personnel were called and took Kalas to George Washington Medical Center.
“He himself [Brooks], as I understand it, worked with him and immediately got emergency medical there,” Montgomery said earlier.
The Phillies have contacted the White House and said they are not going to visit with the president tomorrow.
As of now, today’s game will be played as scheduled.

Sad news for Philly fans but - Jeepers. Road trips with the Phillies are rough on announcers.
I had the opportunity to meet Harry on several occasions and you'd never find a kinder, more decent man. Knowing the man behind the voice made his wonderful voice all the better.
Just last night I heard a snippet of his calling a homerun in Sunday's game and thought “I hope his career never ends”.
Phillies baseball just won't be the same without him.

Oh dear that is sad news. A great radio voice. He was on the local sports talk radio show just a few days ago. He will be missed. The great true radio baseball guys are leaving us (Harry Carey, Skip Carey, Joe Nuxhall).

Sad, I really liked him when he would be on a pre-game show with the Cardinals announcers.
Amazing. I just heard the game the other day when Larry Andersen was talking about HK throwing out the first ball. I know he had some surgery in February, but this is still a surprise.
Some day, we fans of other teams will learn the same fate of our favorite home announcer and will lament their loss. this is sad indeed. Here in Milwaukee, we have been blessed with Bob Uecker for many years. He is simply a national treasure behind the microphone and I’m sure Phillies fans felt the same way about Kalas.
