As stated trust it to clean yer puter ! hit the lower right hand corner button and let it run. First time will be longer than normal due yer plugged up system ! I makes it all better !

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a cleaner.

Approx how long does it take to run? Range? Minutes, or hours?

How much free space do you have on your OS drive? And, do you have SP2 installed?

You do know that if you have turned off system restore, every restore from there back is deleted, right? As well, if you used the Windows “Cleanup” tool, you will have deleted all but the last restore point.

That said, I have to ask if your C:\System Volume Information folder has anything in it. It’s a hidden folder, but you can select to show hidden systems files and folders. If you need help to do so, post back. If you can see it, then right click on it and select “Properties”, then look at the “Size”. It should contain x number of gigabytes (GB), at the very least, it the number should be larger than 0.

I will wait till 1:30 ET for a response. After which I charge double time. :O)

First time may take a while.....just exit your browser and email client and run it. There are places in CCleaner that will let you keep cookies like FR so ya don’t have to keep signing in . First time ya run it it will make ya go back and log in to FR. Then go to the options page in CCleaner and move the free republic cookie to the keep side of the box as with all cookies ya want to keep !

As stated 1st time .....run cleaner lower right hand button . Then you will have lots of crap in the form of text lines pop up. When it stops and all lines pop up then hit the lower right run leaner button again . A clean screen will come up.

Then repeat the process with the analyze button in lower left of the screen !

It will take a few minutes to do it first time and then very little time in the future.

It will run in more secure modes as you will see by exploring it after first cleaning .........the more secure as in NSA level security cleans the longer the clean takes.

I have used it for years with spybot and spyware blaster and it is great suite of utility software........free of course !!!

There is a new version 218 out since I dl'ed and installed 216 after enough people finally convinced me it was the way to go. I started to dl the new version earlier tonight but changed my mind.

So I went ahead and ran CCleaner 216 as I do about once a week now, and the first time it freed up tons of space on my main drive, says I don't need to defrag.

So after what you said, I dl'ed and installed the latest version and ran it again just now.

FreeRepublic had that funny look (more stuff at the top than usual and larger fonts) in Netscape (not in Firefox or IE7), and it was driving me nutz, tried everything I could think of to get it right again, no luck. After I ran the newest version of CCleaner, FR is back to normal in Netscape, don't know why as it didn't happen before from that. Sometimes it does that like maybe FR is having a problem or something but doesn't last long.

I don't know if what I ran cleans the registry or not. I've been afraid to run that (you get to it from the tab). My sysrestore didn't work either last time I needed it even after I backed up to another highlighted day & tried again, so I just gave it up and put up with it, can't remember how I got around it. No need to run it now but I'd like to know if it's fixed. I have repaired a couple programs since.

I've been having a problem with Firefox since I installed the latest version of that. On many of my sites, it's starts loading and spins and spins, just hangs. So I hit stop and it switches over to a blank page from the site I was going from. Then I hit reload, and it will load the page I want. Odd. And a minor nuisance.

Of course, I have to sign in everywhere again, but I save my pw's so no biggie.

In version 18-878 there is a new addition in the check box options on the left side .......”wipe free space” !

I did that first few times and it does take a while initially but very very little time after initial cleaning !

never a fault for me cept when it IS FR’s issues versus mine ........

Good luck !!

Stay safe !

My system was a mess, 40 gb, Win XP, never cleaned for years, hd over 75% full. I did the analyze first, couple minutes. Then I ran the clean. Very fast, like one minute or so.

Since we're talking shop...I just built a new rig last month. Intel i7 940 running Windows 7 beta. Good grief, is it fast. 7 is incredibly stable for a beta platform. I'm pleasantly shocked. And, I only tried it after a Freeper suggested it.
