McCain Statement on Gates' Budget Cuts

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today released the following statement in response to Secretary Gates' announcement on a fundamental shift in Defense spending and priorities:

“I strongly support Secretary Gates' decision to restructure a number of major defense programs. It has long been necessary to shift spending away from weapon systems plagued by scheduling and cost overruns to ones that strike the correct balance between the needs of our deployed forces and the requirements for meeting the emerging threats of tomorrow,” said Senator John McCain. “Today's announcement is a major step in the right direction. I believe Secretary Gates' decision is key to ensuring that the defense establishment closes the gap between the way it supports current operations and the way it prepares for future conventional threats.

“I also greatly appreciate that Secretary Gates continues to place the highest priority on supporting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.”

Juan Mccain is a fraud. Go to Scottsdale and you will see HUGE factories for General Dynamics or one of the dfense contractors. Buildings the size of mals and there are about 8 of them with gigantic parking lots.

Maybe if Juan had the guts to ask for O BC but Juan was born off the navy base in Panama.

Yup, once again McCrazy is taking the completely wrong position. He still thinks 0bama will appoint him to some cabinet post if he only begs enough.

“I also greatly appreciate that Secretary Gates continues to place the highest priority on supporting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.”

REALLY??? How is cutting military projects “supporting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces”????

I heard earlier that they will be cutting the F-22 Raptor program. That is INSANE!!!!!!! It is one of our best (if not THE best) fighters we have!

Obama’s whole rhetoric about “saving and creating jobs!” Nonsense! I heard that cutting the F-22 program alone will cost over 90,000 jobs!

Our guard is coming down and then.....Oh, I don’t even want to think about it!

God, have mercy on our country!

Cancelling Raptor at this point is indeed insane.

They are going to have a fight on their hands that is for sure.

From the NYT:

And while he promised to fix the flawed procurement processes, which allows weapons prices to soar, he said that he wants to hire tens of thousands of civil servants to do the work, since contracting that out to the private sector has not proven efficient.

...

Mr. Gates said he would cut from programs for defense against missiles, including halting the increase in the numbers of defensive missiles deployed in Alaska. Defense experts were also expecting that Boeing’s airborne laser system, which would equip a modified 747 jetliner with a laser to shoot down missiles, might be killed.

What a jerk. The more they muck around with this, changing quantities, changing schedules, upping this, cutting that -- the more the whole thing costs! Clinton bled the defense inventories dry... looks like Gates is trying to do it again. But with more "civil servants," of course.

NYT:
Mr. Gates said he was going ahead with plans to buy four more of the Air Force’s advanced F-22 fighter jets in a supplemental spending bill that will be forwarded to Congress soon. But he said he would cap the total number of F-22’s at 187. ... The advanced fighter, made by Lockheed Martin, was designed during the cold war and has not yet been used in combat. Critics view it as one of the most prominent examples of a military program plagued by cost overruns and delays.
Designed during the Cold war? Not hardly.

This is why I never drink from public water fountains. You never know where this guy is or where he’ll be..... and I don’t want to risk catching whatever is making him so feeble.

Your hatred for McCain is boring. You could go after the real frauds, but instead go off half-cocked on the assertions of others. The presence of defense contractor’s factories in his district proves that he is willing to cut programs where needed. Your assertion that he was born off base is foundless as well. What proof do you have?

Critical thinking is a skill that must be learned and honed.

I suppose the same fate awaits the Osprey! He will probably allow a few more Navy surface ships to be built, so they can name one after him “the USS Blithering Idiot”

Juan McCain the RINO was not born on base. The whole Senate punchy and judy show to verify McCain as being eligible was a smoke screen to cover up Obama.

McCain is pro-Amnesty and has gone out of his way to stab conservatives in the back. If you are with his campaign can I get my donations back? The moron shot himself in teh head with his own McCain-Feingold bill.

If the idiot had stepped aside we might have gotten Fred or even Mitt or Rudy and not had the Islamo-Marxist. McCain running to slobber over Obama after he lost with Lindsay Graham was pathetic.

If you love amnesty Juan McCain then you may be a little lonely here.

Like Obama, McCain seems to be a disciple of Machiavelli: "The promise given was a necessity of the past: the word broken is a necessity of the present."

Link, McCain in 2008 campaign: “This weekend Sen. Obama was asked for an example of a time when he bucked his party,” McCain said. “His answer was defense spending. He says now he wants to increase it, but during the primary he told a liberal advocacy group that he’d cut defense spending by tens of billions of dollars. And he promised them he would quote ’slow our development of future combat systems.’”
McCain added that recently America has realized that “this is an even more dangerous world than we had thought” and that this is not a time to “slow our development of future combat systems.”
“This is not that time,” McCain said. “And that’s not bucking his party, that’s telling them just what they want to hear.”

That’s why the Air Force needs the perfect tool for air dominance. The F-15C Eagle is already outclassed by Sukhois, MiG-35s, the Eurocanards and the J-10 Sinocanard.
