Join us for Luke's "Thunder in the Desert" 2009: March 21 and 22:
Luke's "Thunder in the Desert" 2009 Open House is a two-day event at Luke Air Force Base and one of the most diverse air shows in America. The U.S. Air Force's Aerial Demonstration Team, the Thunderbirds, will bring their special brand of high-flying excitement to this year's show as well as numerous other aircraft and ground displays, exhibits, and attractions.
General admission to "Thunder in the Desert" is free. No tickets are available for purchase or required for general entry. Off-base parking will be available for a small fee.
See website for list of static displays and schedule of events.
Ping.
Unfortunately, once Obama has his way the lineup of aircraft for this year’s show will be relegated to the Confederate Air Force before long.
Looks like fun!
Oh Boy! The Thunderturds!!!
Rats - this weekend - no time to plan ....
Not Funny
Wha...? Not funny?
Oh, alright, I guess you’re right...
Hmmm...maybe we won’t come straight home tomorrow morning. We’re going to be on the other side of town anyway...
I’m overly sensitive when it comes to dissing our military ... if it was an Obama drill team then I’d go along with it ... :-)
My squadron and shop used to do all their heavy (read: dirty) maintenance. We used to catch them “borrowing” parts from the spare line, reducing our readiness rate.
When they got new engines, they needed new gearboxes on them. They estimated it would take about 2.5 months for us to do all the modifications required. We had them out the door in about four weeks. There was talk of a Commendation Medal for everyone on our crew, then they talked about a personalized lithograph, then a beer bust, and then they sent some guy from pneudraulics to the jet engine shop with a handful of brochures.
So, yeah - the Thunderturds. I love to watch them fly - but I know about all the blood, sweat and tears that other folks put into their performances.
Well that’s not right ... I understand inter-service rivalry but that’s wrong ... they should have had their own facilities and supply ... I wonder how the Navy Blue Angels handle it ...I have two brothers in the Army, one a chopper pilot the other a weapons officer ... back home safe from Iraq ...
The Marines do the maintenance for the Blue Angels. I wonder if they have the same problems? From the outside, it doesn’t look like it.
Ping!
It’d be nice to know ... the T-birds sure do seem arrogant ..
I don’t know that I’ve mentioned this before - please thank your brothers for their service, would you? And thank you for supporting them from home.
I wrote them every day, sometimes was able to get into an email conversation with them ... then on the cell a lot too. And Thanks!
I’m watching them practice right now—from my back yard. Luke’s F-16 Demonstration squad is up now. I also saw an A-10 up. It’s a perfect day for flying, sunny with only a few clouds. Should be perfect for flying tomorrow also.
I just finished watching them practice and I took this photo with my crappy IPhone camera. If you could do this you'd be pretty arrogant too. This is a 360 executed in the the 4 ship diamond formation.
Was remarking on how they dissed the other shops on the base ...
