I grew up with standard poodles and can verify to what you said. They have very large mouths and not much fear (of me at least)....

Weren’t they originally hunting dogs before they got popular and their image changed? I’ve even heard that the funny clip jobs were originally to make it easier to get burs out of the coat but kept vital areas warm. Of course I’ve suckered for sillier stories.
