Oscar Grant, 22, was shot once while on the platform after a BART officer drew his gun during what officials called a volatile and chaotic scene. A gravely wounded Grant was taken to Highland Hospital, where he died.

Sounds a bit strange, but remember the ‘ministry of information’ is providing the coverage...
Here’s a comment from a self-proclaimed witness:
“I was one of the witnesses, I saw it from the train. I called in with a recorded statement earlier today. The man was completely restrained and was not being violent; he had two cops on him, was face down and cuffed, and one of them pulled out his gun and shot him point-blank. He was resisting in no way. Shame on all of you calling him a ‘hoodlum’ and a ‘punk’; he did nothing to deserve that.”
My guess?
Accidental discharge with a Glock.
Cops shouldn’t use Glocks since they have a propensity to want to keep a round chambered while they flash it all about WITH THEIR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER!
Then when the gun “accidentally” goes off they are forced to make up some story, which demeans their victim, makes the cop look like an ass, and insults the intelligence of the public.
Some people obviously can’t handle a weapon that does not have a safety (Plaxico Burress for example.) So they need to use something with more safety features.
Accidental discharge with a Glock.
I own 2 glocks and you have to pull the trigger to shoot.
Stupidity discharge would be a better name...
I always thought BART was pretty safe. But I guess 2:00 am is never a good time to be out..
As I say in both my initial and requalifying firearms classes: you gotta be smarter than the gun!.(and , yes they are glocks My dept. uses)
Bart is pretty safe but it was New year 2 in the morning partygoers coming back from SF drunk is not a good time to be on BART...
BTW they extended trains running till 3.00am for the partygoers..I might be wrong but i think BART usually stops running around 12.30
It seems though that some people there have had enough. The comments about what to do about the murders by the illegal immigrants seemed very conservative in nature.
People had enough of the city's liberal, feel good policies.
live 40 miles away from SF for the last 20 yrs have been to SF twice...It is a liberal cesspool.
I agree.. But if clowns are going to run around with their finger on the trigger, when they don’t have any intention of discharging the weapon at that time, then they should get a version with a heavier trigger pull.
Im sick of reading about “stupidity” discharges.
It is a cesspool there, definitely. We were in Oakland about a month ago. Yuck. Variables contributing to this problem: ‘Youths’ brawling on train, then on platform; 2 A.M.; alcohol +/or drugs.
When there is disorder, police are called to maintain order for the safety of the rest of us. When there is chaos, sometimes there are accidents. Police sometimes even are responsible.
However, those who were fighting on the train and on the platform started this whole thing, and they must bear the responsibility, even for the young man’s death. Once there is chaos, things ARE out of control.
Lesson — Do not START chaos and expect to be safe from it.
Hard to judge what really happened but since no weapons were found on any of the “fighters” I would think a baton across some shin bones would defuse most situations quite effectivly
More ammo for the gun banners guns are unsafe...
Rule 1
Do not put you finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot, regarless of it,s safety features
Being from the Bay area i just automatially assume all youths are armed, until proven otherwise...
I don’t know why that’s so hard for people to grasp.. Too much TV maybe.
For cops to have a accidental discharge it is inexcusable..
Bart cops probadly the majority have never pulled out the gun...
Inexperience,Adrenaline rush,shakes..
My guess all of above..
After watching the video, my guess is that my BART fares will be going up soon.
Yeah i just posted the story..
Inexperienced Bart cops dealing with the new year on Bart
