As you may have heard, changes are happening at WTIC to the on air line up. I briefly spoke with Jim a couple of times today, and to say he was surprised is a bit of an understatement. Hes busy with the Sound Off Daughters wedding coming up tomorrow, but asked me to post something here on the blog.
After nine years at WTIC, Diane Smith, who co-hosted the morning show with Ray Dunaway, will not have her contract renewed and is leaving the station. She is interested in exploring ways to continue to work with the station, and has many other projects she is looking forward to. Dianes statement is posted at Roger Catlins blog.
Colin McEnroe, who was on air between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. has also been let go. Colin will be on the air tomorrow afternoon, and he may post more information at his forum on the Hartford Courants Web site.
-snip-
Jims show - Sound Off Connecticut - will expand by one hour and start at 9 a.m. ET. Hes excited, and probably a bit nervous. But for many, two hours was never enough!
Rays morning show starts at 5:30 a.m. and goes till 9 a.m. The slot from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. after Rush Limbaugh will be a local and national news program hosted by Aaron Kupec and Bill Pearse.

I cannot believe that WTIC actually had the guts to dump this arrogant, sophomoric liberal jerk Colin McEnroe once and for all. The Hartford Courant is practically bankrupt as well... hopefully snarky little McEnroe will lose his job over there also, and will have to actually find a REAL job for once in his life.
More good news: WTIC is also dumping liberal Diane Smith of the "Ray & Diane show". IMO, Smith added nothing to that morning show, and was the reason I couldn't stand to listen to it regularly. Ray Dunaway will now have his own show from 5:30am - 9am. Ray is about as conservative as Jim Vicevich, as far as I can tell. Good for Ray!
PLUS, Jim Vicevich's "Sound Off Connecticut" show will be EXPANDED by one hour! His new show will run 9am - 12noon. Congratulations to our FRiend Jim Vicevich, who has done so much for our troops and has raised a LOT of money (pretty quietly, I may add) for such worthy charities as ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease.
Both Jim Vicevich and Ray Dunaway have done a lot over the years in the community of central Connecticut. What the heck has that idiot Colin McEnroe ever done, except whine and complain about having to follow Rush Limbaugh, trash President Bush and all Republicans/conservatives, and make fun of the physical appearances of Republican women, ie Katherine Harris and local Republican women politicians? Good riddance, Colin... don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out! ;-D
PLEASE e-mail WTIC and/or post a comment on WTIC's website thanking them for these changes. The libs are already leaving whining comments about what a "mistake" it is to let Colin McEnroe and Diane Smith go, while keeping Rush Limbaugh's show on the air.

Send an e-mail to WTIC THANKING the programming department and/or station management for these changes (especially for finally dumping Colin McEnroe!): Contact us: WTIC 1080 (scroll down)

This pencil neck has the nerve to talk about how women look?
The sun was a little bit shinier, the air a bit sweeter...
Congratulations, Connecticut.
I can't believe it either, but check out WTIC's site: Changes at WTIC 1080
We are celebrating here! I said to my husband: I hope this isn't some kind of April Fool's joke or something. Too early for that, though.
My husband thinks that maybe dumping Colin and Diane is a cost-cutting measure by the station. Colin's slot will be filled by two WTIC "news readers" - Aaron Kupec and Bill Pearse - who I'm sure won't command a big salary. Aaron Kupec tends to slant his news reports to the left, from what I've heard. Not sure about Pearse. Maybe it'll be sort of a local "Hannity & Colmes" type of show, I don't know.
Also, WDRC 1360's lineup is changing as well... perhaps they're expanding Vicevich's show to compete with the Glenn Beck show, which I think runs on WDRC 10am-12noon. Not sure who will go into Bill O'Reilly's slot at 12noon.
As far as I know Howie Carr will continue to broadcast on WHYN 560 (Springfield, MA) from 3pm - 7pm after Rush. I assume WELI 960 (New Haven, CT) will continue their line-up of Rush, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin.
Not bad for deep-blue Connecticut/southern Massachusetts! :o)
ROTFL! ;-D
Good point!
Thanks... I still can't believe this is happening in deep-blue Connecticut. Hope it lasts... ;-)
Some good news (for once) in the Hartford, Connecticut area today, if you’re interested... :o)
It’s time to get Tom Scott back on the air
That's why programs like Rush Limbaugh drive them up a wall.
Indeed.
Lefties live in a fantasy bubble where 'everybody' is a liberal and all the 'really smart people' agree with them. Then they trot that presumption out in public in the form of a talk show with some snippy little self-absorbed twerp like Colin McEnroe and not only does it fail to gain an audience but sponsors pull away, too, making the lefty program untenable in a business environment. Even the heavily-subsidized Air America network failed.
Because liberals assume they are the anointed rulers of the peons (in their warped view of the world) they have a hard time facing the reality of conservative talk radio's success. They pretend it doesn't matter and that talk radio hosts and listeners are just 'the fringe', yet they belie that pose as they try to emulate conservative talk radio (with their liberal spin) and keep failing.
McEnroe was a puffed-up, pseudo-intellectual who tried to be witty at conservatives expense but just came off arrogant and basically humorless. Good riddance.
Diane Smith didn't annoy me as much as McEnroe but she was dead weight. Ray Dunaway is a smooth old radio pro who never needed a co-host...especially Diane Smith, a TV reject at that.
I agree that this is likely a money-saving move by WTIC but it can't hurt their ratings, either. I doubt many listeners will tune out because the dreary Colin McEnroe is gone. I also doubt that Diane Smith's departure will raise any howls of protest, either. They both had a good, long run. Times are getting tough and radio stations, businesses with heavy competition, cannot afford to pamper liberals with 'personalities' that no one really wants to hear.
Jim Vicevich, although not hard-core conservative, is fair, doesn't defer to liberals and makes intelligent comments on politics that most folks can agree with. Jim is a breath of fresh air in solidly liberal Connecticut. May he prosper.
Exactly right. I hope the Left never figures out the "secret" of successful talk radio programs!
Problems is, the Left owns just about everything else: TV, most newspapers and magazines, universities, the unions, the "Green movement", etc, etc....
Excellent post in #12, Jim. Well said, as always. :o)
Is Hannity going on WTIC live now???
No, if you read the article at the link at the top of the thread, WTIC is going to launch a local news show in the 3-6pm slot run by WTIC news readers Aaron Kupec and Bill Pearse. Weird, but I'm sure it's a cost-cutting move. Maybe they're trying to compete with Dan Lovallo's "local" show on WDRC in the same time slot.
I finally got XM/Sirius satellite radio. Now I can listen to Hannity live, and/or switch over to Howie Carr on WHYN 560 if I get tired of Hannity's topic of the day. If I need a traffic report, I can still tune into WDRC or WTIC.
TIC does better traffic, you can call in accidents to TIC, but DRC doesn’t take callers givng updates
I know, since I drive 84 to school back and forth I call in all the time, half the accidents that are called in during the day about Waterbury are from me. :)
Am I right, my nutmegger FRiends?
That’s a shame. Colin well so well liked by so many people. ;O)
