Smart move by the 49’ers. He interviewed for the Falcon’s job when they hired Petrino and they say Singletary was very impressive. As a player he was definately Mr. Intensity.

So, if you hire an A-A coach you don’t have to interview anyone else? Appears so.

Since this is a new football thread, let me take this opportunity to predict an all-Manning superbowl. The Giants are the best team in the NFC, and the Colts are the best team in the AFC.

The AFC playoff teams just dodged a bullet with the Patriots missing out. They would have been tough in the post-season.

The Raiders would have to win a game. They aren't up to the challenge. . .

He was interim coach for 9 games. There was no reason to look at anyone else.

No. If you hire a coach who turns a losing team into a winning team you don’t have to interview anyone else.

If Singletary was white, they would have had a conniption for not interviewing a black

That’s actually the rule. But in the rule they say “minority” instead of “African-American” but yep, you got that bout right. If he were white they would have, by rule, had to interview minority candidates.

I’ve looked forward to an all-Manning SB for the past few years. It would be great if you are right.

Good move by an up and coming team. Look for a little competition in the NFC West next year for sure!!!
I guess Vernon Davis learned his lesson. That team didn’t lie down for Mike.
Meanwhile in Cleveland, a total mess. Savage gone, Crennel gone tomorrow and that laughter you hear is coming from the Ravens offices and Art Modell’s home.
Before anyone crowns an all Manning SB, that Ravens D is playing as well as it did in 2000, and now there is an offense that can put up enough points, too. And don’t think for 1 second Carolina doesn’t want another shot at the G-Men either. When that happens, they will win that one.

Mike has to sort out his assistant coaches now. Martz is probably gone, so they need a new offensive coordinator, their 6th one in 6 years.
I'm glad the '9ers are keeping Mike, overall, the team has been playing much better since he took over from "Suits" Nolan.

What do u think about Shaun Hill? The 49ers GM seems to have a mancrush on Alex Smith.

Probably a good choice. Only time will tell.
Should be interesting to see who takes the vacancies at:
Seattle
Cleveland
Detroit
and possibly
Buffalo
Jax
KC
Washington
Dallas
Cincy
NY (J)

Probably not under these same circumstances, but in general you're right.

Jim Mora was designated the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks for 2009 soon after Holgrem made his announcement it was his last year and a contract has now be signed. He was working with Holgrem as the defensive backs coach this year.

St Louis is almost certain to have an opening.
To: SmithL
Singletary doesn’t fit with the 49ers for some reason. He seems like he’d be a perfect fit in an NFC or AFC North division team.
To: SmithL
Hey, it’s the first move the 40-Whiners made correctly since they took Alex Smith #1 overall.

Singletary doesnt fit with the 49ers for some reason. Did you watch their game against Washington yesterday? The players looked like they wished it was Week 1 instead of 17. The players think he fits. The fans love him. Mangagement seems happy. How would you define a good fit?
