LIMA, Peru: Turkey too pricey for your holiday feast? Has your ham budget hit hard times? How about some nice roast guinea pig for Christmas dinner?
The rodent is being touted as the other white meat by officials in Peru.
Called "cuy" in Peru, guinea pig is important in Andean folklore. A painting of the Last Supper hanging in a Peruvian cathedral shows Christ and the 12 disciples feasting on guinea pig.

Monday, officials showed off some guinea pig dishes, including the rodents fried, roasted and broiled. They also had a live pig dressed as Santa Claus.

Eeerrrpp.
Almost enough to turn me into a vegetarian. We’ve got so many wild turkeys around here that we could survive on them forever.
Pass on the guinea pig. Thanks, but no thanks.

Florida should export thousands of Nutria to Peru. It would be like having a roast turkey instead of squab. They weigh anywhere from 11-20 pounds, and the Peruvians would probably love Cajun style Nutria.
