Terry, Steve, the crocodile hunter's wife, was instrumental in getting the law changed so that cougar are a protected species. Since taking away their only threat (other than that one mule) they have become embolden. There will continue to attacks on on fuzzy little house pets and people until the Ca. legislature gets a clue.

By the way, cougar tastes great. No kidding. Here in Arizona the season is open year around. Harder than heck to hunt though. Easiest way is on horseback, with dogs. My last cougar hunt went 7 days days before I finally got one.

Funny. The cougar was protecting her cubs. The bear looked like a big bully who was stunned when he took a good shot from a little kid.
