Laser illuminated HDTV has arrived, in the form of a 10 deep 65 display. It represents Mitsubishis effort to capture the top rung of home theater enthusiasts. For $7000 retail price, the L65-A90s will treat you to a level of performance that exceeds any display I have tested to date in terms color gamut, brightness and low power consumption. In addition, its black levels were as deep as the darkest display previously reviewed. Complimenting the TVs black level is its ability to resolve dark detail and not bury it (into black) as some other displays do.
Overall the L65A90 rates in the stratosphere of top displays, specifically the Pioneer Kuro Elite plasmas, the LED backlit Samsung 950 LCDs and the 65 Panasonic Premiere TH-65VX100.
Mitsubishi has announced it will sell additional models in the future, including a 73 in 2009. Lasers have been demonstrated by other companies for use in LCD flat panels and front projectors and while Mitsubishi remains hush-hush regarding other future products, after seeing the L65-A90, I have no doubt that we will be seeing a line of LaserVue HDTVs in the not to distant future.

Laser HD. OHHHHHHHH, me likey. Course it’s gonna be hard to come up with another $7000 in an Obama economy, but this might be worth it.
from the article-
The LA65-A90 uses a Texas Instruments .65 Dark Chip 4 DLP (Digital Light Processor) as the microdisplay imager.

A ‘merkin chip!
you don’t have to spend this much to have Hd at over 120”. See cheapdavehometheater
$7000 is a lot of money, but for a first product release that’s less than I expected. This bodes well for prices once there is some competition and volume selling.
let’s see, my house that used to be worth 500K, maybe I can still sell it in the Obama economy for 7K so I could buy this TV, but then I have no place to plug in or watch my shiny new TV.
Just what I need to watch re-runs of "The Beverly Hillbillies"...
The 52" xbr6 is just under $2600. Both of these are LCD models. I currently have a 40" xbr4 which I love. I need to replace my 55" Mistubishi rear projection tv in which the blue convergence went out and I get a 3D effect and crappy blue color.
The Samsung 61” rear-projection with the LED engine is selling for around $1500. As much as I like the possibilities of the laser engine, I can’t justify paying $5500 extra. This is price-gouging, pure and simple, because the differences in what it costs to manufacture the two is probably no more than a couple of hundred bucks. The most I’d pay is $3500.
You could live in the box.... :-)
So much TV...so little to watch
The 67” is not much more these days, with a little careful shopping.
I have one—it is fabulous, and far and away the best bang for the buck if you want a large screen.
The LV better be out of this world for that kind of money.
Heh, Heh, I could make the price come down by spreading a rumor that “rays” come out of the laser TVs and cause brain tumors. Health scares seem to be all the rage these days.
What’s the difference between the XBR and the Bravia.
Hope to be shopping soon. Looking to get something around 52”
LCD. Sony is my 1st choice.
Thanks
Bravia is a line of tv’s.
XBR is a label that they give to the top of the lines i’m pretty sure.
So having a Bravia thats also an XBR means you probably have a pretty sweet tv.

Theres a new Sony (COLOR) LED backlit tv on the market that CNET is saying even blows away the Samsung.
don’t have the link.
Cost 6 grand though.
