This ones easy enough - they all started out on the island today known as...Taiwan.
It been shown that DNA, along with linguistic roots and a few other markers, link back to the indigenous tribes on Taiwan.
Recently, a year or so ago, they've even uncovered settlement artifacts that pre-date ones found over on mainland China. Of course its hard to get these things widely published or presented for peer review...wouldn't want to offend that "5,000 year old culture" (really just one year repeated 5,000 times) over to the west of Taiwan.
