LONDON - A new study in the United Kingdom has revealed that homosexuals are about 50% more likely to suffer from depression and engage in substance abuse than the rest of the population, reports Health24.com.
After analyzing 25 earlier studies on sexual orientation and mental health, researchers, in a study published in the medical journal BMC Psychiatry, also found that the risk of suicide jumped over 200% if an individual had engaged in a homosexual lifestyle.
These findings strongly support the results of similar studies conducted in the United States, which have unveiled the severe physical and psychological health risks associated with homosexual behavior. Drs. Paul and Kirk Cameron of the Family Research Institute revealed in 2007 that research shows that the lifespan of a homosexual is on average 24 years shorter than that of a heterosexual. As a health threat, even smoking pales in comparison, as studies show smoking can shorten one's life by only 1 to 7 years on average.
While the Health 24 article suggested that homosexuals may be pushed to substance abuse and suicide because of anti-homosexual cultural and family pressures, empirical tests have shown that there is no difference in homosexual health risk depending on the level of tolerance in a particular environment. Homosexuals in the United States and Denmark - the latter of which is acknowledged to be highly tolerant of homosexuality - both die on average in their early 50's, or in their 40's if AIDS is the cause of death. The average age for all residents in either country ranges from the mid-to-upper-70s.
Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons, a psychiatrist and member of the Catholic Medical Association, says there is evidence that homosexuality is itself a manifestation of a psychological disorder accompanied by a host of mental health problems, including "major depression, suicidal ideation and attempts, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, conduct disorder, low self-esteem in males and sexual promiscuity with an inability to maintain committed relationships."
Fitzgibbons said the American Psychological Association, which is known for its support of homosexual "marriage," ignored the evidence he presented that homosexuality presents significant danger to psychological health.
Well then, we better teach our school children to avoid this lifestyle.

You have to be utterly confused and disturbed to believe that male to male and female to female is “normal”. It is the OPPOSITE. Homosexuality is NOT normal. I can understand where one is depressed in trying to live an ABNORMAL life style “choice”. It doesn't work and at some point the idea of suicide might be an option.
The reality is that their “lifestyle choice” is not normal no matter how they try to make it “normal”.

The American Psychological Association, 35 years ago, was just pandering to its paying clientele when they declared that homosexuality wasn’t a mental illness.
It was a good move commercially and financially, as homosexuals made a large portion of their revenue stream.
But scientifically it was a sell out.
That’s racist and somebody is going to get sued over it.
Disturbed people are more likely to engage in homosexual activity in a desperate attempt to find something positive to turn around the misery that is their lives. When they discover that homosexuality is but a chimera, suicide is an all too frequent outcome. Homosexuality is a symptom of a disturbed mind.

Actually Tx_eggman, that is pretty much how Liberals would explain this phenomenon. Mental disorders in the Homo community, such as depression, result from the guilt imposed by society, especially Christians, and the resultant rejection Homos feel. That is one of the things that drives the secular humanists to seek the destruction of all religions. After all, if there is no God, and you are just sophisticated ape, why feel guilt about any natural function, no matter how expressed?
On the other hand we feel the pathologies among the Homos is the result of their violating God’s law and the natural order. Deep down such behavior is known to be wrong, however much rationalization and denial one engages in.
And so the Culture War continues. We will win, btw.

And I should care about these demented queers? Why? I already have to pay for their medical problems resulting from their perverted behavior.
That's an interesting observation.
I have an openly Gay co worker who, although he's a generally nice fellow, does tend to spend about 85% of his time bitching and moaning about things gone wrong in his life: Finances, relationships, family issues, etcetera.
One day he was on a tear about his financial woes, and I'd finally reached my tolerance limit and politely told him to shut the H*ll up, stating he isn't the only person on the face of the Earth with financial problems. There are times when this guy actually does fit the role of the Gay Drama Queen...and that was one such day.
...So there just may be something to this study, given the fact you rarely hear straight people complain in such a fashion about their lives.
These numbers are what was being reported when I was working in life insurance in the early 90's. Overall life expectancy for homosexual men was early 40's; ten years longer if they factored out AIDS deaths. It's interesting that "advances" in AIDS prevention and treatment apparently haven't budged these numbers in the past 15 years.
I would expect this to be true of anyone who makes the central focus of their life their sexual activity. Don’t get me wrong, I have an extremely strong sex drive, but when sex is the centerpiece of your life and how you define yourself within society, you were likely unhealthy to begin with and likely to have an unhealthy life.
