South Carolina plans license plate for Christians
(Excerpt) Read more at cnn.com ...
OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eviiiiiiiiiil Christians will get their own tags!
...a tradition dating back to the ‘30’s.
And the goobermint steps another foot in where it isn’t authorized.
Plates are for tracking vehicles and vehicle taxes.
Period.
Anybody who wants to make a statement can buy a bumper sticker.
Can’t wait for the following lawsuits from pagains, wiccans, muslims, etc.
I don’t think God cares what kind of license tag I have.
But I still think the “Reverend” Barry Lynn is full of it.
why do you care? I can (and do) get personalized plates. If Christians, or Wiccans, or whomever want to personalize in a certain way or have custom plates and it is allowable why not?
“While individuals can ask the DMV to print plates for other faiths — for a $4,000 fee — the request would be subject to significant limits and rules not imposed for the Christian plate. Other tags could feature a religious symbol — such as the Star of David — but no words would be allowed.
The Christian plate will include the words “I Believe” and a bright-yellow cross on a multicolored stained glass church window.
Lynn’s group said in a news release “that other religions will not be able to get similar license plates expressing differing viewpoints, nor can a comparable ‘I Don’t Believe’ license plate be issued.”
I don’t really care of people want religious plates, but IF the above is true, it would seem to me the Christian plate is doomed.
....and quite frankly why shouldn't they have their own as well since their rights under the constitution are not diminished by the fact they are not Christians?
And the goobermint steps another foot in where it isnt authorized.
How true!
The founding fathers are turning over in their graves.
I’ll be sending my check for 4K to them, for my agnostic plates.
“I’m hedging my bets”
The way I understand it -- and I could be wrong, of course -- but as usual, I believe Barry Lynn's group is mistaken. Any person/group willing to pay the $4000 fee and having acquired the 400 minimum signatures needed in support of a specific plate, can very well have a special plate done, so long as it meets certain standards of "decor" (nothing vulgar).
I care because not all of those groups will be allowed their own plate. We’re not talking about letters and numbers, but a separate plate design.
So, we’ll get lawsuits from those groups that feel slighted.
Then, the state will use taxpayer dollars to defend itself against lawsuits.
This has already been PROVEN with the introduction of Pro-Choice plates, and others.
NOT the role of government.
Seems small, but all this stuff adds up.
4000?
Dang. That would show how stupid I am..... not for wanting the plate.... but for having a tag thats worth more than my car.
I wish Indiana had a plate like that. In the mean time, I’ll settle for our “In God We Trust” plate. :)
SC ping!
Please welcome our newest South Carolina ping list member, snowsprite.
Actually, SC already has religious plates: for the religious, they have “In God We Trust” plates, and for the irreligious, they have “In Reason We Trust” plates. I’ve seen them both on the road.
The link doesn’t work.
I proudly display the In God We Trust plate. Have not seen any of the In Reason We Trust plates.
