Boy George denied visa for tour

Boy George's US solo summer tour is in doubt after authorities refused to issue him with a visa, citing looming overseas legal issues.

A statement from the singer and DJ's management said it was in relation to a forthcoming London trial on false imprisonment charges.

The 47-year-old denied the allegations in 2007 and was released on bail.

The former Culture Club frontman's 24-date tour is scheduled to begin on 11 July in Las Vegas.

"At the moment, Boy George cannot come to the United States of America because he has been refused permission to enter by the USA Administration," the statement said.

'Astounded'

"This is not in respect of anything he has done in the past but because he is facing a trial in November in London for something that happened in April last year.

"George's lawyers in London have absolutely forbidden us to speak about the facts of that case and all I can say is that George is astounded at the decision and is having lawyers here in the States look at it in the hope that someone will change their mind.

"The proceedings that George faced in London are of course important and serious but George has been given unconditional bail by the police and the courts in London thereby permitting him to travel anywhere in the world.

"George really would love to come to America and repay his American fans' loyalty and that is why we are asking the US authorities to reconsider their decision."

The singer was arrested last year after a 28-year-old male escort from Norway accused the singer/DJ of false imprisonment by chaining him to a wall and assaulting him.

It IS in respect of something he had done in the past and is facing criminal prosecution for. He may be innocent of the crime but it would be putting the cart before the horse to say outright that something didn't happen. The nature of it is to be established in the courts.

“Do you Really want to hurt him?”

Yes, and I really want to make him cry too.

Thankfully (?), America isn’t short on entertainers who parade their inner demons, rather than seeking a way to fight them.

The UK refused to give Martha Stewart a visa four days ago, because of her conviction on stock fraud.

The USA is now refusing to give "Boy" George O'Dowd a visa because of his indictment on false imprisonment and sexual assault charges.

I thought British citizens did not require a visa to come into the United States based on the visa waiver program.

KEEP THIE FREAK OUT OF THE U.S.!

80’s popstar BOY GEORGE has been arrested on suspicion of assault and false imprisonment charges. The singer has been accused of kidnapping male escort Auden Carlsen and chaining him to the wall of his east London, England flat on Saturday (28Apr07). Carlsen claims he was hired by Boy George - real name George O’Dowd - to go to the singer’s flat at the early hours of Saturday morning to pose for photos.

The ex-Culture Club star started taking pictures of him in kinky gear - but Carlsen claims he feared for his life soon afterwards. He says, “George said he was popping out for milk at 5 am. I heard him come back and I walked into his bedroom wearing just my T-shirt. I was jumped on by George and another man. “George handcuffed me to a hook by the bed as they held me down.”

Carlsen accuses the singer of producing a box of sex toys and whips when the other man left, telling him, “Now you’ll get what you deserve.” The escort managed to free himself by pulling the hooks from the wall and alerted the police from a nearby newsagent. He adds, “It’s ironic that his biggest hit was Do You Really Want To Hurt Me - because I’m sure he did want to hurt me. “I was convinced I was going to die.”

He was arrested here of a non-violent crime and did his community service for it. Looking at this as a whole, him coming here helps the economy as tour promoters, venues, etc., make money while he isn’t really dangerous to anyone (unless you’re listening to his music IMHO). I say let him in. He has been arrested many times in the past here and in the UK for drug possession, so that’s what’s probably keeping him out.

Can’t he just swim the river with the rest of them and work unnoticed and collect SSN benefits when he’s done?

I know a woman who claims to have once had a crush on Boy George. I think this might have been when she was in Junior High School. I am open to hearing speculation about what this might imply about this person’s psychology.

This is all reciprocity for the Brits denying Martha Stweart a visa. Although I am mot a fan of hers, she could certainly teach some over there a bit about good-tasting food and complementary decoration.
