I Want To See McCain With Two Books in the Near Future (Pooh)
The Campaign Spot on NRO ^ | 6/17/08 | Jim Geraghty

I realize the Democrats' opposition to just about any drilling for oil and natural gas anywhere is a major, major opportunity for the McCain camp in this election. But if we don't see John McCain soon holding up a copy of Winnie the Pooh in one hand and the U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual, written in part by Gen. David Petraeus, in the other, and pointing out that the next president will need to consult with the authors of the latter book instead of advisers who seek national security guidance in the former book, then the McCain campaign is missing a major, major opportunity...

The problem is (at least so far, and I know there’s still time to change) that the McCain campaign never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

A quote from the Sydney Herald article linked above:

“Richard Danzig, who served as navy secretary under the former president Bill Clinton and is tipped to become national security adviser in an Obama White House, told a foreign policy conference in Washington that the future of US strategy in the war on terrorism should follow a lesson from the pages of Winnie the Pooh, which can be shortened to: if it is causing you too much pain, try something else.

He told the Centre for a New American Security: “Winnie the Pooh seems to me to be a fundamental text on national security.”

I'm gonna pick up my marbles and go home.

The miseducated college students who support Obama will think the Pooh analogy brilliant, far too many of them aren’t capable of any more complex thinking than children’s stories. The college profs, while talking about critical thinking, make sure students don’t question anything they are told.
