The fighters for Saturdays CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights weighed in on Friday outside the Prudential Center, where the event will take place, in Newark, N.J.
Despite most fighters making weight, one the most notable did not. Gina Carano, contracted to fight Kaitlin Young at a weight of 140 pounds, weighed in at 144.5 pounds. Since the bout is not a title fight, it will be allowed to take place, but Carano will have to forfeit 12.5 percent of her purse to Young as a penalty.
Young weighed in at 140.5 pounds, which is allowable as there is a one-pound tolerance for non-title bouts.
The events only championship clash is between current middleweight champion Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith. Both fighters weighed in at 184.5 pounds.
Main Card (on CBS Television):
Kimbo Slice (235.5) vs. James Thompson (257)
Robbie Lawler (184.5) vs. Scott Smith (184.5)
Gina Carano (144.5) vs. Kaitlin Young (140.5)
Jon Murphy (260.5) vs. Brett Rogers (263.5)
Phil Baroni (185) vs. Joey Villasenor (184.5)
Preliminary Bouts (on CBSSports.com):
Carlton Haselrig (263) vs. Carlos Moreno (261)
Jim Bova (160.5) vs. Chris Liguori (161)
Matt Makowski (171) vs. Nick Serra (167)
Wilson Reis (140.5) vs. Justin Robbins (140.5)
James Binky Jones (154.5) vs. Calvin Kattar (155.5)
Zach Makovsky (135) vs. Andre Soares (134)
Mike Groves (154) vs. Joe Sampieri (155)
You make Female MMA look bad by not being professional and making weight.
UFC/MMA Ping!
Thanks for the ping
I haven’t been keeping up.
How is the Kimbo Slice fight shaping up?
Is he getting better?
Someplace I have the video of him getting beat in a London Prize Ring style bout by a white guy.
Kimbo is fighting a guy that is perfect for him, a brawler with no chin.
NOT GUILTY!
I saw that girl fight and she’s pretty damn good.
Chicks fight mean and they are very technical. Sometimes even more technical than the guys because they have to be. They don’t have the power or the strength, so technique become the determining factor, which is where it’s at imo.
I just wish she was more professional and made contract weight for her fights
More of her to love =)
That’s why they call it the sweet science.
Maybe if she took off a little more clothes she’d make weight..........
Break out the towel!
She’s got rhinestones on her skirt?! That’s a couple of extra ounces, right there!
So it’s a bloodbath for show....
Here’s the one of KS getting beat

She has ALWAYS had trouble making 140, but the promoters keep insisting she fight at that weight. Unfortunately, the limited available competition in women’s MMA makes it hard to find matches for her at a catch-weight, and there is good reason to believe she wouldn’t be competitive at the higher weightclass.
I recently watched a rebroadcast of her last fight and, honestly, she was pretty impressive in how she was able to reverse a very bad position and end up winning by submission.
Kimbo built a reputation on fighting people with no skills who thought they were tough, and when he did fight someone tough it was under “rules” that essentially allowed only dirty boxing, which is his strength. In fact, his opponents generally seemed unclear as to what they were and weren’t allowed to do, which gave Kimbo a huge advantage.
That said, he has learned some additional skills, but not enough to fight a top notch fighter who is able to get in past his fists.
So he wont be taking on Rampage Jackson anytime soon....
He weighs too much to fight at LHW
