I love several guitarists so much, that I had to narrow it down to my TWO VERY FAVORITES. They are Edward Van Halen (Van Halen) and Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick) --

That's a tough one. Three that immediately come to mind are BB King, Eric Clapton and Dickie Betz.

whoa. so many. your two are total showmen, as well.
As someone else phrased it, "this week" I'm very high on David Gilmour -- this is after 35 years of "Money" being the undisputed king of rock and roll tunes.
Stevie Ray is, of course, completely in a class by himself.
I bought Eric Clapton's autobiography last night, and stayed up till one reading it.
I've come to really appreciate Larry Carlton of late -- a true master; and his friend Robben Ford.
I'd better stop now, because I could go on for hours.
I someone going to call me a hippie like last time?

How about Chet Atkins.yep. CGP.
Just about any "Nashville Cat."
Like my first (bluegrass) instructor taught me, "there will always be 12-year-olds who can play you under the table...get used to it."
Oh, that reminds me, though I don't care for his grown-up stuff too much, there was nothing like having to stand on your toes to see 10-year-old Derek Trucks blow the roof off the joint with his slide work. Amazing.

All the dead ones.
Kidding...just kidding. That's what I do.
IMHO, Eddie Van Halen's a great who was always surrounded by mediocre talents so he never got his props. Jimmy Page is great, but was upstaged many times by the greatest drummer rock 'n' roll ever experienced. Eric Clapton can make the lead guitar say more than Peter Frampton could with a synthesizer attached, and Peter Frampton can work a guitar.
I'm just gonna say Roy Clark and leave it at that.
