"The "perps" most likely chewed on the valve stems." Good guess, damn things leak without a dogs help. ;-D

My dog has one of these toy tires and LOVES it. The toy is very realistic, other than it’s size, so I can see how a dog would confuse the real thing for a toy.

I believe I called her ‘mom’ because that’s kind of the gist I got as to how the story was portraying her. That’s why I put it in ‘air’ quotes. Just think of the fat SNL guy, motivational speaker, “van down by the river” guy, doing all the air quotes when he was talking, and that’s the spirit in which I gave that ‘mom’ the air quotes...
To: Salamander
Nope, that’s the most vulnerable part of the tire. that’s why when people slash tires, they puncture the sidewalls, it is the very thinnest there, no reinforcements.
To: Cagey
Wonder why the mailcarrier waited 2 hours to call for help.

Stephanie Dekelbaum, the dogs' owner, called them "generally sweethearts" and blamed the attack on a tire toy the dogs had recently been given.Note to self, take away my dog's tire toy.

My dogs act like they are going to attack the neighbors lawnmower everytime he starts it up. They run along the fence barking a snapping and carrying on something awful but they would never hurt him. Its a game to them. My dog thats in the house attacks the vacuum cleaner. She snarls and bites the wheels. Its a game.

And did it really take the police two hours to get there?

I got my dog one of those tires and it was his favorite toy before I got him a cheap 99 cent rubber ball.

My last dog used to think it was play time every time the vacuum came out. He would go get a ball and throw it at the vacuum or drop it right in front of it so we would hit it and then he would chase it.

Exactly and they can sound really vicious when they are playing. My dogs think it’s great fun when a lawnmower starts up. LOL

I lost a couple of tires to junk penetrating the sidewalls, which are not so heavily protected against penetration (otherwise, it would be harder for miscreants to slash tires). I do not think it would have made it through the tread. Radials have that little bulge there, too, just right for 'puppy' to sink a tooth into...
I do find it hard to believe that the dogs managed to bite a rotating tire, and would guess there was a panic factor in there somewhere--or they would not have had the chance.
