British model/actress Elizabeth Hurley and her husband Arun Nayar have settled an unfair dismissal lawsuit filed against them by their former maid, who claimed she was paid just $2.40 (1.63) an hour.
Violet D'Souza, who was brought over to the UK from her native India by Nayar, lived and worked for the couple at their posh London home for four years before she was suddenly fired last year after falling out with her employers.
D'Souza went to seek help from local Citizens Advice Bureau lawyers following the sacking, and soon filed for an employment tribunal claim, accusing the couple of breach of contract, failure to supply a written statement of terms and conditions, race discrimination and unfair dismissal.
She also filed for minimum wage and earnings owed under UK law, where employees over the age of 22 must be paid at least $11.04 (14.60) an hour.

She lived and worked for them for 4 years and now suddenly she’s ticked? I say pay her the mandated $11 and then charge her for room and board.
The $11.04 is supposed to be pounds.
That's $21.60 USD minimum wage. How many minimum wage workers are actually worth paying that much?
This woman is to be paid 11 dollars an hour PLUS room and board?
I want to be a maid.
LOL. How many kids do you have?
You already are a maid, and let me guess, underpaid (at least compared to the individual in this story).
I have two, a hubby and a dog (oh, and those vermin they call hamsters upstairs)
You’re right, I’m underpaid in cash, but well overpaid in love.
The UK hourly minimum wage for adult workers is 5.52 pounds, which is about 11 US dollars. It’s lower for workers between 18 and 22, and still lower for those younger than 11.
bump
There is nobody cheaper than the wealthy!
