I don’t even have to listen to know who they are.

You are not alone. I’ve loved rock for 50 years. Hated C&W from the very first Hank Williams, Sr song my parents made me listen to. Even though I’m well into my fifties, I listen to Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, and other rock groups every day.
When Cream reunited for a concert, I bought the DVD. No one can play guitar like Clapton!

"Give a listen to The Searchers. The great MOST UNDERRATED band to come out of Liverpool - and England." Pretty good.
The Searchers, 1964, Needles and Pins

In the last few years, country music has gotten pretty lame. I think things go in cycles.
As far as rock & roll goes, I thought that duet Sheryl Crow and that Kid Rock feller did a few years back was downright purdy.

I had inquired “didnt the Quarrymen evolve into the Beatles?”
Thanks for the follow-up!

Of course you can. You can even love rap or punk or grunge.
But not Kenny G or Michael Bolton.
One has to draw a line somewhere.
BTW, the article takes a pretty simplistic view of things.
Henry Ford is LaChappelle's example of a "right-winger" but he ran for the Senate as a Democrat at the urging of Woodrow Wilson.
Plenty of old time populists could be characterized as right or left today and that goes for their opponents as well.
I kind of get what he's trying to say, but you could go blind and crazy applying current political labels to the movements and tendencies of past generations (and feel pretty dirty and opportunistic while you do it).

That’s from their only appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. Original lineup. Tony Jackson on bass, Chris Curtis on drums [both now deceased], Mike Pender on lead guitar and lead vocal, John McNally on rhythm guitar.
Pender, one of the co-founders with McNally left in ‘85. The band still does an exhaustive touring schedule every year. They’ll be in the New York area at the beginning of May. Still put on a GREAT show.

Needles and Pins was written by Sonny Bono, ya know.
Most underrated Brit band IMHO was The Creation. Like the early Who, but better.

I was making a joke re your comment. You know, “I wasnt sure if my memory was accurate or not.”
And I said, “I can’t even remember what you asked.”
Oh, never mind. Lame attempt at humor.

Can a Conservative Love Rock 'N Roll and Hate Country Music? No. To be a conservative you must love country music, drive a unwashed pickup, drink Maxwell house coffee or beer and never admit to liking any sort of vegetable.
Rock 'n Roll, opera, volvos, wine, latte and eggplant are strictly forbidden.

Country is just too straightforward cheesy for my tastes. I prefer rock.

Sonny co-wrote it with Jack Nitsczhe. First recorded by Jackie DeShannon [whose songs “When You Walk in the Room” and “Each Time” were done by the Searchers]. The Searchers heard it in Hamburg when it was being done by a group called Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers. They nicked it from them. Had a very hard time selling it to Pye as a single release to follow up “Sugar and Spice”. Interestingly, when Tony Jackson left the band in ‘64, he was replaced by Frank Allen, the bassist from the Rebel Rousers. He’s still with the Searchers today.

My oldest (24...how did he get that old when I am still 29?) is HUGE Tool fan. He also has two tats, and is as conservative as they come (he drove back home from school to vote for Rick Santorum—he didn’t get his absentee ballot in time—but it was that important to him).

I remember the group Tool, to me the last gasp of great rock was in the late 1990s. My last “favorite” group was Everclear.

Michael Bolton, oh my gosh, well he dated liberal Ashley Judd. From what I remember, his father was a conservative politician in Connecticut.
