What a whiner and crybaby old man is Don Shula. I mean really Don, get over it.
No matter how good the Patriots do in 2007-2008 it doesnt effect how good you were. You are still as good as you were before the "perfect season" of the Pats.
You are embarassing yourself and football generally by your whining about spygate, etc.
PS: If your best team ever played the 2007 Pats, you would lose by 50-3. At least.
This is, like, something to do with sports, right? Zot, people can be bats.
I don’t remember all of the specifics, but didn’t the Dolphins face only losing opponents during their run?
Certainly they didn’t beat the same relative caliber of opponents. . .
Yeah, Spygate was terrible, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t have any significant impact on the Pats record.
I’m not a Pats fan, but even I can recognize this.
And if they did only one thing this year at least they shut the Dolphin’s the hell up. We can go forward knowing that we won’t be facing potential champagne corks every time a team goes 3-0 and loses their fourth. . . Ugh.
I just wish the Fish had lost that one game for another “perfect” season this year. The irony would have been almost unbearable.
While whining may be unseemly, I doubt that the score would be 50-3. As with many things, its impossible to compare teams separated by time.
Their coach, Don Shula, says "going undefeated during the regular season is a remarkable achievement."
Shula says the Pats "have done a great job concentrating on each week's opponent and not letting any other distractions interrupt that focus. If they go on to complete an undefeated season, I will be the first to congratulate Coach Belichick and the Patriot organization."
Any problem with it?
both the NBA and NFL players of 30 years ago look like high school stick figures compared with todays athletes.
I doubt the undefeated dolphins could even win the 2008 NCAA
I have no love for the Pats, but I agree. The arrogance of the Dolphins was ridiculous. Glad it is over.
True. It's sort of like saying, "What would happen if the Zulus fought the Sioux."
yeah he did say that. right after he brought up spygate again. plus he looked like a whiner when he said it. The whole thing sounded backhanded to me. He should have been more gracious and congratulatory. If the pats lose the superbowl he can be smug then.
hey: you ever been to any of his Shula steak houses? are they any good? the menu mentions the undefeated dolphs i hear. Guess he will have to change it now. LOL
That's easy. Zulus. they were an army. sioux were a small number of raiders. No contest.
Proportionally, of course.
But the Sioux rode horses and used rifles.
“...you ever been to any of his Shula steak houses?”
Yeah, been to the one in Balto. Great atmosphere. Food was OK.
Why? The '72 Dolphins are still undefeated. All the way through the Super Bowl.
Well DUH!!!! A bunch of 50 and 60 year old guys playing football?
Mark
And the Zulus in modern times totally drove the African National Congress crazy during South Africa’s apartheid days, because the Zulus would have fought to the last person.
I think Shula has become classy about it, but some of the others, e.g. Mercury Morris, have been whiny bi-—es.
Compare that with the Maris family when McGwire broke the HR record or...heck...practically anyone else when a record is broken.
You might want to post what it is you are talking about, rather than just toss something out there from nowhere. I know Shula made an idiot of himself earlier in the season, but what are you talking about now?
Now you are just being mean. :-)
But, in the Irony Department, what was the last regular season opponent that the New England Patriots lost to before having a perfect regular season record?
I’ll guess Miami.
yup. 21-0.
Judging by the diet commercials I'm seeing with Schula, I'm betting he's hungry.
That was my thought. I heard that quote last night and unless something changed since then, he was a right-on congratulatory person.
Which is probably good.
If I’m not mistaken, it was Shula who stepped up to tell us all what fine young man Michael Vick is. Enough said.
True that.
C’mon, let go of it already and just celebrate the Pat’s amazing perfect season! Shula’s comments were in the past. I saw no whining in his statement he made last night.
Dude, show some respect! He lost a lot of weight on Nutri-system!
Are you having a conversation with yourself - or is there a link?
You realize, of course, that you would then suffer several years of patriots arrogance.
Hey, at least they would be new faces.
Bless yourself for not being privy to the “How could you wear glasses without ears” discussion, or the on-going (for over a decade) debate about if a head-first dive gets you to first base quicker (in baseball; not with a babe).
How many games have the Patriots won since their last loss? How many did the Dolphins win in a row? What thew NFL record for consecutive wins?
16 and counting.
The Patriots and the Dolphins both lost in the playoffs the season previous to their "perfect" regular seasons so each "perfect regular season" started the clock at zero consecutive wins.
How many did the Dolphins win in a row?
18.
The Dolphins lost the second game of the 1973 season to the Oakland Raiders.
What the NFL record for consecutive wins?
21 games won by the New England Patriots from October 5, 2003 through October 24, 2004 which included winning Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Yes, I have missed those interesting topics. When I get a little impaired at home, I lecture my husband on economics.
Thanx for doing the homework.
